Can public attention shape justice?
In a forthcoming paper in the American Economic Review: Insights, our colleague @nadineketel.bsky.social (together with Olivier Marie and Kyra Hanemaaijer) explores how sudden surges in media attention, “salience shocks”, influence judicial decision-making.

Why don't firms publish pay in their job adverts?

We present the first experimental evidence on how (not) posting wages changes the applicant pool, and whether that gives firms a reason to hide wage info.

Great short thread by my co-author Lukas + link to the full paper👇

For vaccination to be effective, over 90% of kids need to be vaccinated (so diseases can’t spread). The Netherlands doesn’t hit this level for *any* childhood vaccine - and uptake is falling year on year.
In my experience the program is laughably bad. Next government should fix it!

Peak Dutch politics:
After three parties (BBB, NSC, VVD) couldn’t agree on who should be immigration minister, they’ve reached a compromise:
there will be three immigration ministers; one from each party

Whatever problems Europe has - and it has plenty - it is looking pretty damn good by comparison these days.

It's a very sad day. Just notified that @iza.org is closing its doors as of 31 December 2025. At a time when labor is under attack and technological change moves at an ever-faster pace, I can't help but think that this is a short-sighted decision. My heart goes out to those folks who work there.

The Netherlands is no longer Germany's 17th federal state in economic terms.

New Commission research shows that once strong NL-DE correlations in macro variables (GDP, investment) have become insignificant.

A couple of observations on the stunning divergence between the frugal bulwarks.
