Science not silence, from Paris, with love ♥️ (and strength ✊🏼).
Sometimes, Spain makes me proud. In the face of declining international solidarity and rise of nationalism, authoritarism, and isolationism, the Prime Minister of Spain thinks differently. And you should hear him out. www.nytimes.com/2026/02/04/o...

I am an immigrant. I was educated in Spain, UK, & US. I worked in Colombia. I live in France. I teach French (+ international) college students. Research how to help youth suffering from marginalization. Consult with European policy makers. Pay my taxes. And I, too, try to make this a better place.
I don't often wear political t-shirts, but I'm proudly sporting this one today.

I'm an immigrant.

I teach American (and international!) college students, research the U.S. economy, consult with policymakers, write books, raise my kids, pay taxes, and try to make this a better place.

I am genuinely very happy with the team I work with on a regular basis. It does such a difference in my day to day.

Too often during the last *6* years meetings start with a version of "the world seems to be on the verge of collapse, but... I guess we just have to keep working".

I find myself organizing panels with high up members of different organizations. My experience is that people are vigilant of not creating panels of all men. I want to scream that the problem is not only the panel, is that you don’t give top positions to women enough. *So many* men up there.

The killing of Alex Pretti is a heartbreaking tragedy. It should also be a wake-up call to every American, regardless of party, that many of our core values as a nation are increasingly under assault.

And I am worried about being not being knowledgeable enough when presenting at academic conferences. At least I get my countries straight.
Trump on NATO: "Until the last few days when I told them about Iceland, they loved me. They called me daddy."

(He means Greenland.)

Any wild guesses of where I am? I think this might be Paris, France, but you know, Europe is unrecognizable these days… #ThisIsEurope

In the middle of all of this… you really tell me I have to go on and do my job as if nothing was happening and we are just in business as usual?

I have very good friends. And this makes me feel I got really lucky and that I must not be handling all that bad life :)

The Fed being able to do its Fed things is pretty important if you ask me.

Shout out to all of you who wake up each day feeling like they are part of the resistance. Maybe… it’s because we are the resistance.

Piensa que en ti está el futuro y encara la tarea con orgullo y sin miedo. You know together we're glowin' ✨.

Now that the year is ending, for 2026 I wish more utopia. I hope we become strongly pragmatic but radical optimistic thinkers✨. Wishing you all an enriching 2026.

One week to vacations. Wishing we can all take a restful break in the coming weeks. Taking a breather and having some time to reset seems like something we need as a global community. Good end of 2025, and better start to 2026 to all of you.

Best purchase ever: puff and cozy (& big) rug. I can now lie on the floor while in the living room. Best set up for podcast listening. Highly recommend.

Does not surprise me a single bit. Matches my anecdotal and biased selection of papers seen in seminars. My personal opinion is that we should do somewhat less of these and favor more studying actual behaviour. Harder. But I think worth it.

I always low-key dance while walking because I am listening to music. Some people always look surprised when they see me. Oh boy, you should see the faces of some Parisians. Priceless. Strongest reaction by far.
