Big science day today for us-our first ice station! We drilled ice cores to characterize the ice and sampled from an Ice pond to see what biology is there and what it’s doing. We are pretty stuck in the ice trying to drop the geology team off at Seymour Island before we can do more #oceanography 🌊🐧🇦🇶

My father received a Purple Heart. He’d volunteered for the Army during WWII, and was shot twice in the Philippines by a Japanese sniper. Dad never talked about his sacrifice. He was the only child of 5 from a poor coal mining PA family to graduate from college (on academic scholarship).
