All the game logic is done!!!! We have a clone-able guard, we can hide behind stuff, collect items, power up the Resistance radio, get caught, restart, and win the mission.

Now I have January and February to make it pretty. But it plays! And it's pretty fun!

This is a great read. Well worth your time.

This is why they want us to be upset about day care centers.
Printing this on a small index card to hand out every time I am asked why tech billionaires supported the current administration:

OK! A lean 13 scripts and you have a working First Person Stealth level with patrolling guards, an inventory system, interactable objects and a good controller in a less than 10 minutes.

I'm setting up some user friendly scripts to get a First Person game up & running quickly. Sets up node trees, key bindings, globals, has a nice player controller & more.

I'll stick these (and all the other stuff I'm building) on Itch or Gumroad when they're ready.

Ever want a Voronoi that's actual geometry?

Made this to plan out the level for my WWII inspired stealth game. It cell fractures a plane & assigns random colors. Using it for farm fields but also good for dungeon floors, stained glass and more. #GameDev #IndieDev #Blender

Came up with (i think) a cool way to texture characters: using Ucupaint's Decal tool to project sparate photobashed elements onto the mesh.
You can pop out to Krita and erase what you don't need and use the amazing Auto Reload addon to see the changes instantly. #GameDev #IndieDev #Blender

#Blender3d skin shader! Ucupaint gets grumpy with too many layers so this procedural shader is designed to bake out maps for the different subsurface layers (blood vessels, veins etc) separately so you can fine tune them as Ucupaint image layers.

All the #Godot optimized #Blender3d tools I've made so far in action. The Splat Map tool controls texture mixing & height & feeds a Godot Shader.

The Scatter Tool realizes instances & feeds an Optimize Scatter import script in Godot that cleans it up & converts it to a Multimesh

Another tool for Level Design in progress. Simple Geometry Nodes setup to carve a path, of an exact real world size, into terrain NON-DESTRUCTIVELY. Vital for control over elevation for player movement. #GameDev #IndieDev #Blender

Splat Tool progress: It now uses the same RGB texture & Geometry nodes to add & control displacement for doing terrain. If you don't use displacement the options auto-hide. Added PBR scale control too.

This is all optimized to export to #Godot.

Don't underestimate the value of Fake Subsurface Scattering. Just a layer with an orange color (FF7A3D fyi) with low opacity set to soft light. Injects a little life into the skin.

Genuinely amazing how fast you can texture a head in Ucupaint with 1) serviceable topology 2) Paint Base and Fake Lighting layers fed through color ramps.

Here's my Splat Map #Godot Shader and #Blender3d tool. The tool loads PBRs into RGB channels and creates 3 UV maps (Trim, Lightmap & Splat) so you can just paint. All 2k textures.

The shader mixes them and adds some quick procedural dust or wetness if you want.

Made a Spat Map tool for Blender (and a Godot Shader to use it.)

The performance penalty for Splat Maps vs Vertex Colors is negligible (it's 1 extra draw call) and splat maps give far better results. The Godot shader can accept both anyway.

Testing edge wear & trim sheet control in Godot using Vertex Colors. A simple grunge texture controls breakup.

Modern hardware handles poly counts fine. Draw calls are the real bottleneck, so reusing the same small batch of textures is great for performance.
