I've been on a few of these trips recently. Always good fun and it's great to meet the people behind the beer.
The next Craic Beer Community meet-up will be on Saturday the 28th of February, at @ballykilcavan.com: an independent brewery in Co. Laois set in the picturesque surroundings of their old farmyard.

I've been on Reddit for 15+ years and even from the start it's been a poor relation to discussion forums.

Of course those forums themselves were a poor relation to Usenet.

40 years of ongoing enshittification.
once again we must face the uncomfortable reality that between politics and being the only remaining reliable source for Google, Reddit is the best forum on the internet

Chastening first half. France are on a different level, especially in the air.

Agree with his. I'm a geographer, so I get to do both. They often work hand-in-hand.

Flood modelling involves lots of STEM, for example. How that impacts on peoples lives is Humanities driven.
I should also note that I am someone who has humanities degrees and who *also* has ended up really enjoying doing a lot of STEM-Type-Work professionally: I’m a big fan of both.

And I refuse to play along with the idea that one is superior to the other.
I agree that it’s high fucking time that we stopped acting like we need to grovel and constantly justify the existence of some of our most incredibly elemental and ancient human pursuits.

New Gist: The Abuse Factory

It shouldn't be difficult to act swiftly and without hesitation when the question posed is "Is it OK to work with the child sexual abuse material factory?" But our state failed this most straightforward of tests this week.

X, the child abuse imagery app, revealed our state has no red lines. This is the Gist.

Reminiscing about the times when you had to send your Happy New Year texts a few hours early, because the networks were unusable either side of midnight.

It looks like @jimmfelton.bsky.social's promotion of MilkCoke has crossed the pond and picked up a mutation on the way.
Speaking of egg nog, I have here cut the Kroger store-brand non-alcoholic nog with an equal amount of Coke Zero, because Coke's favor profile actually works with egg nog, and also this way I'm not drinking something with the consistency of glue. It's kind of like an Egg Nog Float, which is not bad.

They didn't even match the font.

Jokeshop stuff.
This is literally one of the most pathetic things I’ve ever seen, anywhere.

This is such an obvious own-goal.

Nobody expects the rail lines to the Northwest will be worked on for a decade at the very least. So removing other lines that wouldn't have started in the lifetime of this government seems to be a very deliberate snub.
They've done it again, they've cut more rail projects. The most criminal one for me is cancelling the reopening of the Waterford-Wexford/Rosslare line. On the left is the All-island Rail Review published by the last government and on the right is the plan published today.

Not a mispronunciation, but a friend of mine was studying Greek and Roman Civilisation and submitted an essay on the works of Ibid.
Thank you to the lovely audience member at @hayfestival who shared that her daughter had once corrected her pronunciation of ‘epiphany’ and told her it should of course be ‘epi-fanny’.

Which word have you royally mispronounced because you’d only ever seen it written down?

Well, that was incredible.

My Bloody Valentine blew the roof off The Point. There was even some confetti dislodged from the ceiling at some point that had probably been there for a decade

10 minutes in to Maria Somerville, My Bloody Valentine's support act this evening, and the bass is already vibrating through the floor.

Had a great chat with fellow Irish early internet adopter recently

We didn't know each other at the time, but Fiachra Ó Marcaigh was hugely influential on us both

A much missed paragon from back when the internet was a positive thing

Hard to believe he's 6 years gone

That My Bloody Valentine gig was a curate's egg. Fully expected for what was billed (and charged for) as a rehearsal. When they clicked it was very powerful.

Saturday night is going to be incredible.

I've seen 2 My Bloody Valentine gigs over the last 33 years, and now I'm going to see them twice more in the space of 4 days.
