Hey so tonight it’s my 300th episode on the ol’ wireless hosting Screen Sounds for ABC Classic. I’ll be counting down my top ten of my favourite film composer ever, Bernard Herrmann. As my programmer said, I don’t look a day over 295.

In celebration of Jaws’ 50th birthday, perhaps I’ll give this a spin and work out what (non-Williams score) music they changed back in 1991. Happy birthday, Bruce!

It's 50, and not at all dated. Its music is coming back out, probably better sounding than ever.

I have three videos below, comment-numbered 1, 2 & 3. If you have 15 minutes, watch those clips. They'll show you so much that's so hard to explain well at all.

The BBC has a neat article on the 1969 film, Midnight Cowboy. The music, quite rightly, earns a shoutout. It’s an excellent film and the music, supervised by John Barry, is excellent too.

Henry Mancini, born on this day in 1924 (d. 1994), holds a spot in the top tier of film composers of the 20th century. Here's part of a thread I posted not long ago regarding Mancini, his work on the THE PINK PANTHER (1963), and other highlights from his career.

Henry Mancini was one of a group of film composers who introduced jazz to mainstream film scores at a time when most film music was still rooted in the late romantic tradition. During his career, Mancini would earn four Academy Awards, a Golden Globe and twenty Grammys.
