Also, every time we get into the subject of American vs. British food, 99% of the time, there's a healthy dash of classism in every argument.

Like, beans are nutrient-rich, easily prepared, accessible and CHEAP.

Corn syrup/dyes/etc are in a lot of the cheapest/most accessible foods in the U.S.
my main problem with the "british food is bad" jokes are that it's old and really dated material. it's not really true, but more importantly, it's hack
'British food is bad' has been untrue for like a generation and a half at this point but really sticks around in the U.S. U.S. supermarkets are inferior to their U.K. counterparts!

I've watched thousands of videos from the Jan. 6 riot as part of NPR's reporting and archive project on that day.

Here are some of the lesser known videos that have really stuck with me.

NPR built a visual archive of the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol, showing exactly what happened through the lenses of the people who were there. In "Chapter 2: Stop the Steal," we look at how false claims of a stolen election mobilized Trump supporters.

I fell doing a jaunty little pivot while onstage during a Christmas musical. My leg suddenly wouldn’t hold my weight so I had to crawl offstage. Learned a couple years later that I’d torn my ACL.
What's the most ridiculous way you ever hurt yourself? I got out of the tub, skidded in water and tripped over the toilet. Ankle sprain.

Having now watched three episodes of Heated Rivalry, I can definitively say that I would've died of sheer mortification less than ten minutes into the show if I'd listened to my mom and watched it with her. Soul gone. Deceased.
Now why did my mom ask if we should watch Heated Rivalry while they were visiting me? Ma’am! I learned my lesson with Y Tu Mama Tambien! We’re not doing that again, watch on your own time!!!

Update: he isn’t microchipped, he has an appointment with a vet on Monday, and he’s made himself Very Comfy. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

This handsome fellow followed us home last night. It was too cold to leave him outside so he’s now warm and snoozing in our house. As soon as the vet is open tomorrow, I’m taking him to get scanned for a chip and checked out.

It is, of course, true. And the bit after it, which is about rainbows being announced on the PA system, is also true.
Just finished "Back After This" by @lindaholmes.bsky.social and I really liked it!

I'm dying to know if this part was true:

The phrase “without setting up housing” is (perhaps unintentionally) putting the onus on the immigrants — while not acknowledging the vast myriad reasons why a person coming to this country would not have been able to “set up housing.”
Homelessness increased primarily because of immigration (lots of people came to the US without setting up housing).
