Hi Bluesky 👋

Small life update: I’m at the centre of a multimillion dollar lawsuit in Alberta launched by a failed candidate for Jason Kenney’s UCP

It may be the longest and most expensive media trial in Canadian history

I’m ready to go public about it and I want to share more details with you 🧵

Canadians prioritize healthcare, infrastructure and the fight against climate change change well over military spending. Yet the Mark Carney Liberals are instead focusing heavily on military spending in Budget 2025.

Just stunning that after claiming to support pharmacare during the election campaign and reaffirming that new agreements will be signed with remaining provinces in September, @liberalca.bsky.social does not commit to doing so in the budget. Mark Carney appears to be a fraud.
Budget 2025 demonstrates a weak commitment to expanding and improving public health care and little vision to end the crisis facing millions of Canadians who can't access the care they need.

Here are 4 things you need to know:
4 things you need to know about health care in the federal budget
Cuts, broken promises, and missed opportunities for health care in Carney's first budget

Mark Carney said Canada wouldn’t cut foreign aid. His budget just axed $2.7 billion. Turns out “fiscal discipline” means breaking promises to the world’s poorest. @mark-carney.bsky.social #cdnpoli #Budget2025

Here's another bit of conventional wisdom Zohran completely blew away: His speech was at well above a 10th-grade level. It was complex, erudite, punctuated by deep and fluent references. You don't have to condescend to voters with baby talk! Part of re-establishing norms is speaking like an adult.

Carney’s gov't is gearing up to cut deep and everyone in Canada should worry. We could see public service cuts rivaling the Harper & Chrétien years: longer wait times, fewer programs, and services gone when people need them most. www.ctvnews.ca/ottawa/video...

The union warns 70,000 public service jobs are at risk if the federal government trims jobs to pre-pandemic levels. CTV’s Natalie van Rooy reports.

Canada better follow suit and get off American digital services as soon as possible. European alternatives exist and, of course, there's a lot of potential for made-in-Canada solutions with government leadership and support. #cdnpoli #digitalsovereignty

A good trend. Social media has some key benefits of course, but its toxicity for both individual mental health and democracy make it a major net negative. #cdnpoli
Overall social media use is declining.

Between 2020 and 2024, more Americans — especially the youngest (18–24) and oldest (65+) — report using no social media at all.

A small group of heavy users remains, but the middle is thinning out.

As leaders meet for #APEC2025, don’t forget Vancouver ’97 — peaceful protesters demanding human rights were met with pepper spray and force. Alongside uprisings of the Zapatistas in '94, these activists helped spark the anti-globalization protests of the 90s and 2000s.💥🇨🇦 #TBT #cdnpoli #bcpoli

I’m somewhat surprised that the teachers intend to obey the law.

Unions have done pretty well in Canada engaging in civil disobedience of laws that blatantly violate fundamental rights and freedoms.

Modern conservatives sure do love the notwithstanding clause tho.

This is one of the stupidest takes I’ve ever heard.

I mean, for a start, what pro-Palestine protest in Ottawa ever lasted more than a few hours?

Did they honk horns all night long, sleep depriving neighbourhoods? Block roads for weeks at a time, impacting medical care kids with cancer?

mark carney taking the time to shit on canada post during his big pre-budget speech was disgusting.

he acts like it’s the responsible choice to gut an essential institution at the very moment he can’t stop talking about nation-building projects. that’s what canada post is and could continue to be!

It looks like the knives are sharpening against Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre as his leadership review looms in just about 100 days.

Meanwhile, he's trying to rewrite history.

Speaking of which, Poilievre (and the Liberal government) should probably apologize for ever attacking UNRWA:

Meanwhile, the average CEO was paid $17.2M
