Yeah this is one of those things that just has to stay in your mind whenever you cover RCMP
What's your favourite Canada fact? Mine is that the RCMP bombed an oil site in Alberta in 1998 "with the full support of the energy company that owned it" and blamed a farmer for it.

This is exactly what we mean when we say that the role of the government is to goddamn govern.

As Ottawa cuts the federal public service, a reminder:

Oxford University Blavatnik School of Government ranked Canada 3rd globally in 2024 (behind Norway & Singapore).

This isn’t a bloated state — it’s a high-performing one.

Horrific indeed. Also horrific is that Canadian companies — from Roshel, which is providing armoured vehicles, to @hootsuite.com, which is providing social media analysis—are choosing to work with ICE.

Shame on them.

ICE murdered Renée Good in broad daylight. Less than 3 weeks later, they killed Alex Pretti, shooting him 10 times. Every day, we watch as people are ripped from their cars, their homes, their lives.

We can't allow ourselves to look away from this cruelty. Abolish ICE.

This is excellent political messaging. @zackpolanski.bsky.social hits straight to the core of the problem. This system is intolerable and it must be overcome: production should be organized around human well-being and ecology, not around maximizing profits for the rich.

NATO was sold to Canadians as a defensive alliance.

Libya shattered that myth.

In 2011, NATO — with Canada on board — destroyed a state and called the chaos a success.

If NATO collapses, it won’t be a tragedy.
It will be a reckoning.

For 25 years, the alliance hollowed out the values it claimed to defend.
Now those contradictions are turning inward.

After promising to cap, not cut the public service during the election & Speech from the Throne, Carney’s budget cuts 28,000 jobs. The reversal—delivered by the MP for Nepean, home to 1000s of federal workers—feels contemptuous.

Quite frankly, it’s outrageous that Mark Carney is cutting Statistics Canada. If he was Stephen Harper or Pierre Poilievre, I feel like this would be getting a lot more backlash.

Carney of all people should know the importance of high-quality data and information about the country.

34% had zero RTs. Only 17% got more than 10 RTs

How embarrassing for AI minister @evansolomon.bsky.social to show so little backbone so quickly.
Around 2014, when Solomon was using his CBC job to peddle art to Mark Carney, BLM was mobilizing against racist state brutality in Ferguson.

Now Carney has tasked Solomon with cheerleading the worst evils of AI while ICE uses it to rebuild apartheid.
