by contrast, minnesotans have a clear strategic goal in mind: the removal of ICE and CBP from their streets. and their discipline reflects that clarity of purpose.

Something I keep coming back to is this blog post by Bartosz Ciechanowski illustrating in great detail how a mechanical watch works. He coded the interactive bits himself in WebGL and it's one of the most remarkable internet documents I've ever come across.

I’ve spent a lot of the last three years investigating the rise of anti-trans politics. Often, it came back to the controversy over trans women athletes.

So I teamed up with @pablo.show to look into the leading figure on the issue: Riley Gaines.

How right-wing superstar Riley Gaines built an anti-trans empire
The swimmer tied a trans woman for fifth. The MAGA industrial complex took care of the rest.

This is a good video about some of the specific, indefensible choices made by The New York Times in their coverage of Zohran Mamdani that you might have forgotten about.

By @tynan.unimportantbird.com, who sifted through a lot of bullshit so you don't have to.

What do we think? Have they had that graphic about no position players having pitched in a world series ready to fire for decades, or was that something a producer had to type up in the last 20 minutes?

I love this stupid sport. It occupies the same spot in my brain that test cricket used to when I was a kid, but it's weirdly shaped and sounds kinda muffled, but is also somehow noisier and leaves me feeling so much more exhausted. "They'll play for as long as they need to" is such a funny concept.

You're either on the side of the big tough president who had his inauguration moved indoors because he couldn't handle the cold, or you're with the little old lady in a thunderstorm holding a sign that says "GRANTIFA." There's really no other option.

Something about this I can't get over is that UNC is a distinguished scholarly institution. They could have paid for the upkeep of half the buildings on campus for a decade just by hiring Belichick to teach a 300-seat survey class called something like "Paul Revere at 4th and long,"
I talked to 11 people who dealt directly with Jordon Hudson as she took power in Bill Belichick’s life.

A lot is getting aggregated from this episode.

Just know that the full PTFO investigation is even weirder — and worth your time… youtu.be/As5P5TA-ERk?...

This is a cool bit of work from my colleagues/friends. It was a treat to watch it unfold, starting from a predicted atypical kinase domain, through a hot gel with a telling dye front and into the answers to a couple of long-standing questions about ether lipid processing.

It's cool that he worked to uncover the NFLPA scandals, NBA cap circumvention by the Clippers and now Thoughtcrime Inc. or whatever, but the really important question is whether @pablo.show is the first to do This American Life and Go On Chapo in the same month.
