Something I keep coming back to is this blog post by Bartosz Ciechanowski illustrating in great detail how a mechanical watch works. He coded the interactive bits himself in WebGL and it's one of the most remarkable internet documents I've ever come across.

I love this stupid sport. It occupies the same spot in my brain that test cricket used to when I was a kid, but it's weirdly shaped and sounds kinda muffled, but is also somehow noisier and leaves me feeling so much more exhausted. "They'll play for as long as they need to" is such a funny concept.

This is a cool bit of work from my colleagues/friends. It was a treat to watch it unfold, starting from a predicted atypical kinase domain, through a hot gel with a telling dye front and into the answers to a couple of long-standing questions about ether lipid processing.
