The prompt for day 11 of #museum30 is rainbow, so I thought this was the perfect opportunity to share these two photos taken one of my stays on @skomerisland.bsky.social Very excitingly, I’ll be spending a week volunteering on the island next summer!

Captivated by the hunting locally, King James I established a royal retreat in our town, remnants of which can be seen today. These satellite images are overlaid with the historic buildings and street names from the era of King James, based on archival documents.

Some people will tell you that the Mary Rose never made it out of the harbour, but she was actually well travelled, at least for a ship in Henry VIII's navy.
This map shows some of the Mary Rose's more notable destinations - any near you? #Museum30 #Maps

This notebook from my time as Assistant Art Curator at y Gaer is full of these maps of the galleries. As a visual person they really helped when planning new exhibitions!

It’s far to early to be thinking of Christmas but these ornaments from the tree at Dinefwr House are always a favourite of the season!

Check out this load of old bobbins!
The crew of the Mary Rose used them to store their sewing kits (thread around the spindle, needles and pins in a hollow space at the end), which they would use to repair damaged materials, such as this ripped cloth jerkin!

A lovely piece from our collection for today’s #Museum30 theme of Stitch – a ‘Friendship Cloth’, owned and used by the donor’s grandmother, Sylvia Ashbridge of Grove Park, Wanstead, who had friends visiting for tea sign and embroider (or embroidered herself) their names from around the year 1870. 🪡

This beautiful seal bag, embroidered with the Royal Arms of England, was made in 1280 to protect the wax seal attached to a charter from the reign of Edward I. It's a fine example of 'opus anglicanum' - highly-prized English embroideries with gold and silver thread.

This year I’ve had the opportunity to do lots of teaching in my other role as a pottery studio technician. As a very introverted person it always surprises me just how much I enjoy sharing my love of ceramics with others and seeing what they create!

Day4 #museum30 sketchbook a digital recreation of John Hunter’s sketchbooks in the Hunterian Museum. The new museum brilliantly interweaves the story of Hunter into the collection. I work on the front-end evaluation & it was great to see the issues raised by audiences being so effectively addressed

Archaeological illustrations form a large part of our secondary collection. Alongside photography, illustration is an essential method of recording finds, as they are able to record subtle details that may be missed in photos.
