Testing. Testing. Is this thing on?

Hello, how are you?
#AlphabetChallenge A new exhibition is opening at The Cooper Gallery on 17 January: Straight A's by John Ledger.

The story of a WW2 hero...

Australian pilot Sgt Alex Hollingworth was believed to be heading back to RAF Dalton when the engine failed. He saved possibly hundreds of lives by crashing into the nearby quarry rather than the surrounding terraced streets.

In 2023 I got sidetracked at work & now a new Christmas tradition was born

From the research I've done Arthur Godfrey sounds like such a fascinating man I tracked down his last Barnsley address which was on the same street my dad grew up on I want to think the Godfrey's and Hardy's were friends
Two years ago today, Barnsley Youth Choir performed 'Christmas Eve' on BBC Radio 4.

It was the first time that the carol, written by a Barnsley bottle maker, Arthur Godfrey, had been sung by a choir in the 21st century after being lost for 90 years until we found it again in 2023.

#OnThisDay in 1933 The Barnsley Chronicle printed Christmas Eve by Arthur Godfrey.

Arthur wanted his Christmas carol to be sung around Barnsley & District at Christmastide. We're not sure if that happened at the time but since we rediscovered it in 2023 lots of people are ♥️

We know that lots of you have fond memories of visiting the santa's grotto at the co-op and Butterfields and Massies - which was your favourite?

You'll need sellotape at home tonight...

We've found something creepier than dolls in our collections. Found while looking for Christmas content in a box of material from a Barnsley post office.

Yes we did have the pun in mind before making this post!
#ArchivesElves is the #ArchiveAdvent theme today and Barnsley Archives have some new helpers.

We're assuming as they're working in the store that their elf and safety is up to date

We have similar, although ours doesn't say Christmas on the front the greeting on the back says "I'll be back for Christmas Dinner"

We're not sure if George Burnett made it home for his Christmas dinner but we do know that he survived the war!

#ArchiveAdventCalendar We've been looking for an excuse to share this brightly coloured advertisement that was displayed in a Barnsley post office - A smoking Santa, how times have changed! #ChristmasColours

If you're looking for a distraction today, search "Victorian pig Christmas cards" in Google

You're welcome 🐷🐽
We were curious by this Christmas card so we got the original out and yes, there does appear to be two little pigs pulling the sleigh! 🐖 🐽
