The #tonyawards is my absolute favorite of the award shows because I always leave with these messages: Be you. Be brave. Go create something.

It's April 25, the anniversary of the mass dragoning in @kellybarnhill.bsky.social's exquisite When Women Were Dragons, and the right day to suggest that this is the perfect book for these times.

I wrote about what else you can do right now other than protest, and new ways to think about cautionary words you've heard a thousand times. What if we read them not as a warning but as *strategy*?

Even though my personal faves didn't get a shoutout (Mmm Clams, I'm Keen on Kugel, Nancy's in the Neighborhood and Gnarly Gnomes, for those of you keeping track) I am over-the-moon happy to see Cece's masterpiece covered in such an incredible way in the NYT!
@nytbooks gave me the best, most fun assignment: reviewing the delightful and hilarious new book by @cecebellbooks — “Animal Albums From A to Z.” It will entertain kids and aging vinyl junkies alike…

Kids don’t need to know what zydeco is, or that Mandy and the Meerkats are a nod to Diana Ross and the Supremes, to dig this spoof of vintage vinyl.

I wrote an essay about my experience thus far with traumatic brain injury. It took a very long time to write, and required a lot of naps, but I'm pretty proud of it. I hope it might help someone else who is experiencing something similar. Here's a gift link:

I think maybe the central problem with the current (baffling) discourse about copyright is that most people don't understand how authors are actually paid, or that this is how we feed our families. The hostility towards this feels kinda nuts, frankly. Art is labor and labor should be compensated.
