Someone has sure already made this observation but the fact they can convert all those empty warehouses into prison camps means they could have converted them into housing, community centers, job training centers or, hell, libraries or schools all along. It’s always a matter of will not resources.

Former reporter Beth Macy wrote the recent NYT bestselling book 'Paper Girl' about growing up in Urbana . . . if anyone wants a good idea how purple Ohio went ruby red, schizophrenic and backward, this is a good source.

Today's Supreme Court ruling allows the voices of Virginia voters to be heard. Virginians across the commonwealth will have their say in redistricting, and I look forward to running in 6th Congressional District and serving people no matter where the borders are drawn. 1/2

Everyone should read this letter from some of the Epstein survivors about the Department of Justice’s actions mirroring the "very dynamics Epstein relied upon”.

The survivors deserve justice and accountability NOW.

Jayapal: To the survivors in the room, if you are willing, please stand. And if you are willing, please raise your hands. If you have still not been able to meet with this DOJ. Please note for the record that every single survivor has raised their hand.

@bethmacy.bsky.social It can’t be overstated: Paper Girl is such a well-written & prescient book, particularly for folks interested in looking unblinkingly into at least one of the divides our nation has nurtured.

And

It’s deeply unsettling to see now what you (& others) already knew.

Just finished reading "Paper Girl" by @bethmacy.bsky.social . She talks about how her home town of Urbana, Ohio changed during the last 20 years to become "Trump Country." Macy makes a lot of good points. One of her points dealt with the number of high school girls who have been sexually assaulted.

It made me think about men who do what Epstein and his best friends did to children but with a much lower profile.
Something is very broken in our society.
"Paper Girl" by Beth Macy is helpful in explaining where we are and how we got here. I highly recommend it.

I was ready to take on Ben Cline when the district was ruby-red—long before redistricting reared its head. I was fully prepared to fight for Virginians before it was politically convenient to do so, and I’m still ready to fight for the people of my community.

His character and conscience are absent. If he’s talking, he’s twisting the truth and cozying up to Trump.
Rep. Ben Cline at the National Prayer Breakfast: "We are reminded that leadership is not only about policy and power, but about character, conscience, and the recognition that all authority that all authority is ultimately accountable to God. We are honored to welcome President Bukele."

Great reporting on reporting. Support local journalism—I read and support Cardinal News, Ohio Capitol Journal, Springfield News-Sun, Roanoke Times and NYT daily. So sad about WaPo’s destruction by greedhead power grabbing.

Thank you!
I highly recommend you read Paper Girl by Beth Macy. She explains how the death of smalltown newspapers in rural areas led to the MAGA cult. It is a memoir about her hometown of Urbana, Ohio which is very close by to my hometown.

Just spitballing here, but maybe in the land of the free we shouldn't have a pedophilic ruling elite class, police who kidnap people off the street, and concentration camps?

@bethmacy.bsky.social thanks for coming to Columbus Ohio for “Paper Girl”.

We need more cross pollination state to state and county to county in order to rebuild community imho. Thanks again for helping us do just that!
Thanks, Pitzer!!!
Congrats to @bethmacy.bsky.social, whose run for Congress is now officially endorsed by our new @governorva.bsky.social, Abigail Spanberger.
