I made pecan pies

I found some dark seasoning salt, oregano, and Herbs de Provence in the cupboard, and decided to scrap the primary school green wood shavings I made and greebled my miniature. I think it came out pretty well for my first time and applying everything with paint brushes and popsicle sticks.
Facing the viewer is a 3d printed earth elemental that has been painted to look like stone. It appears to have dirt and grass growing out of its crannies and the base looks like a summer grassland. The “dirt” is savory seasoning salt, and the “dried grass” is a mixture of herbs de Provence and oregano, that has all been applied with watered down matte modge podge PVA glue. I’ve also dry brushed a bit more white paint to bump the highlights after applying the texture. This earth elemental is the first miniature I’ve ever painted. I tried to put some faux lichen/moss onto it but I hadn’t waited for the painted wood shavings to dry and they clumped up so I took it all off. Hopefully I can grind them up tomorrow and apply them with a kitchen strainer.

At the base where its left foot attaches to the base, there’s a splotch of a green that is way too bright for the rugged aesthetic I was going for. There is a little bit of unintentional striation in the painting that could be from layer lines or I just got lucky with my brush. The fingers of the right hand broke off when I was removing the supports, but after supergluing it and painting it isn’t apparent that it happened. Saturday’s baking experiment: a cherry mascarpone tart. Several years ago my wife had one from a local bakery in a boutique grocery in San Francisco, but they never made it again and have gone under. She’s wanted it ever since, and it’s cherry season. I hope it sates the craving.
A glass dish on a floral cloth. The glass dish holds a mascarpone cherry tart with a homemade graham crust. An attempt was made to make the cherries alternate in an attractive fashion. But it looks a little rustic. The filling is a handmade mascarpone whipped cream and it tastes good. So long as Paul Hollywood doesn’t see, I think I’m ok.

This weekends baking experiment was almond cherry cardamom rice pudding.
A round baking dish of a rice pudding with a large slice taken out. The pudding is hard set, and from the visible side where the slice is missing you can see dried cherries mixed in. The top is unevenly sprinkled with sliced almonds, so it looks rather rustic.

I made honey financiers today, and Ursa was unimpressed (but also warm)
A tray of sixteen honey financiers baking in a mini muffin baking sheet. Half have almonds on top and the other half have a couple blueberries inside. There’s also a fine layer of flour from when I greased and floured the pan. The same sheet of honey financiers now cooling on a rack. There’s financiers are golden brown. Sixteen golden financiers cooling on a baking rack. They’re golden brown and quite small bite-sized even. There’s financiers are a couple wonky ones, one of the blueberries tore coming out of the muffin tin and one of the almond ones is hunchbacked. I fell yesterday onto one of the safeties on my squat rack and now my leg is boiling up the Eye of Sauron.
A photo of the back of my right leg taken in a mirror, there’s a tattoo of a daruma on my calf but it’s mostly turned away as the focus is on a gigantic bruise on my biceps femoris with a long scrape through the middle. With the scrape dividing it, the bruise looks like the Eye of Sauron from Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings films…

Today’s breakfast is apple spiced steel cut oats topped with hastily pralined hot cross bun croutons
My breakfast today, a bowl of steel cut oats spiced with cinnamon, cardamom, and ground ginger. It is topped with hastily pralined hot cross bun croutons and a fan of sliced apples. The hot cross bun was vegan, but the whole thing isn’t. In the background is a blue La creuset stovepot and a frying pan because the whole photo is on the top of my stove.

I made bostock bread pudding!
Uncooked bread pudding topped with frangipane and candied almond slivers. It’s sitting on a stove in a water bath, waiting for the oven to finish preheating so it can go in to bake. The same bread pudding, only now it has baked. The frangipane makes a crunchy little layer and the candied almond slices are toasted. A slice of the bread pudding is topped with a scoop of Salt & Straw’s pot of gold and rainbows ice cream. The frangipane is significant and slightly crunchy

My bread didn’t rise properly because the dough was too slack. But I am still posting to remind myself that I’m doing my best.

TIL that if British people use a new online service, the service must immediately comply with British laws and moderation standards, even if the website does not sell anything in the UK, advertise in the UK, or employ people there, and it's "American exceptionalism" not to understand this.
