All year long, Christophe Waggoner scours Texas thrift stores for children’s Halloween costumes.

His hard work is worth it in the fall when he hosts an event in which anyone can pick out a costume — for free.

an incredible but heartbreaking response to racism:
The dream of every Muslim is simply to be treated the same as any other New Yorker.

And yet, for too long, we have been told to ask for less than that, and endure hatred and bigotry in the shadows.

No more.
My Message to Muslim New Yorkers — and Everyone Who Calls This City Home.

My latest is the story of how my community has rallied to protect and defend our neighbors in recent days, as ICE has targeted the Rogers Park neighborhood in Chicago. "This is not a story about a moment of victory, but a moment of being reminded of our power."
They Came for Our Neighbors. We Showed Up.
Before long, there were dozens, and then hundreds of people in the streets, watching and responding.

In Eswatini, the Southern African country formerly known as Swaziland, people still commonly hunt for honey with the help of wild birds, a new study finds.

This rare form of human-wildlife cooperation is expected to endure, sustained by tradition and peer-to-peer learning, researchers say.

@prisonculture.bsky.social I just wanted to share a powerful organizing space I joined last night--K20 Virtual People's Assembly: Building Power for the Next 20 Years. We talked about the organizing happening to honor and reflect on the 20th Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina and discussed where 1/2

I am grieving the barbarism that is going to unfurl from all this. People are going to die. Livelihoods gone. All to feed a corrupt kleptocracy.

I see every day up close how different it is from the first time around. There are no guardrails. A disaster. I’m sorry we have to live through this.

Mamdani does what I've been calling constructive politics: appeals to identity as a building block of solidarity rather than a replacement for it. love to see it
Mamdani turned up at BAYO at Barclay Center yesterday and said he was going to fight to get Haiti off the travel ban and he said Haiti correctly

This @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social video is absolutely INCREDIBLE. The numbers he cites, the strategy and results they produced — it’s the future. When have you heard *any* campaign talk about this, ever? (Video split in 2 to fit in Bluesky’s limits)

the joy I feel every time I go anywhere on my bike

it’s because of this

and because bike is freedom

and it’s building the new world
Very sincerely, every bit of travel we do in an EV, on a train, on a bus, on a bike/e-bike, by walking or rolling, or by other active transport, helps the climate, helps air quality, and helps national & economic security. We should fund these as national security infrastructure.

Truly the worst of the worst running the country right now.
Trump is nominating Paul Ingrassia to lead the Office of Special Counsel.

Ingrassia has ties to multiple antisemitic extremists.

He called for X to remove a ban on Nick Fuentes and was spotted at a Fuentes rally, and also appeared at events with an alleged Nazi sympathizer.

I said it would get worse very quickly. By tomorrow we will have completed the most dangerous & frightening 24 hours thus far of Trump 2.0. Just to name a few:
1. Defiance of a court order by sending migrants to Sudan without due process (despite clear DP decision SCOTUS) & Dist. CT. order.

Every day. Every thought.

Is a balance on the edge of acknowledgement an ecological abyss we’re looking into.

And an edge acknowledgement that nature has its own priorities. Independent of mine.

It does not know destruction - it still delivers, ignorant of the human aesthetic.

Beauty arrives.
