Oh hi bunch of new followers who found me somehow 😄 Quiet for the moment due to life, but hopefully soon you can expect some thoughts here on software, art, music, design, community, collaborative and hybrid intelligence, games and game development, open source, citizen science, etc!
This is awesome. Every time I touch a regular expression I’ve thought of how nice this would be😄
📢Introducing ArkRegex📢

a drop in replacement for new RegExp() with types ⬇️

This idea of trying to simulate a thematic concept rather than just treating it as aesthetics closely mirrors a comment I’ve heard and made multiple times in serious games: make the thing you’re applying games/play to *the game itself*.
Take that game idea in the back of your head -- how could it communicate its core idea through mechanics and systems, before aesthetics and narrative?

@raphkoster.bsky.social on the difference between thematic experimentation vs mechanical experimentation.

@protopro.blue Having fun poking at the app since being approved. :) Couple suggestions:
* Newlines in description fields
* Social icon for ORCID
* Sections for projects, awards, volunteering, and publications
Looking forward to seeing y'all develop!

Finally got to watch this last night, and I was so impressed. Big congrats to @djaxx.bsky.social and the others who contributed. This was a joy and a privilege to view.

Seeing Sonic Pi pop up in a come of posts has me thinking about multi-modal interfaces again. What if a DAW let you seamlessly switch to a text-based editing paradigm (akin to changing between staff and piano roll)? Are there edits that would be easier to make/represent?

HoloLens experience was great for perceptorships during the pandemic when medical students couldn’t be in person with patients

A compelling project presented by Shaun Foster of a VR experience allowing you to try out usage of a 19th century printing press. Love how this allows for experiencing something normally out of reach (unlikely you’d have access to try out a tool like this in depth IRL!). #seriousplay25

#seriousplay25 day 2 keynote with @stephenreidedu.bsky.social - “Play Matters”. Lovely, funny, inspiring talk - assuming the recording gets posted, definitely give it a watch. Won’t do it justice here

Listing all the roles he’s taken in games - “I have not done any of those things - but I have”

Discussion after Drew Davidson’s #seriousplay25 talk on collected stories in the field of play: In difficult times, play is hard, but powerful in how it helps us survive, connect, and see a path forward.

#seriousplay25 day 1 keynote from Michelle King. Many wonderful thoughts, just a few of which:
- How words and language are powerful tools for sensemaking and connection
- How context and location affect our understanding and perspectives

Looking forward to speaking at the Serious Play Conference in just a couple weeks!

Coming fresh off the tails of announcing @frameshifter.org and grounded in what we've done @eternagame.org, I'll be discussing why #play and scientific discovery games are a powerful tool in the current moment (1/2)

Today I get to formally announce that I have co-founded and will act as founding director of a new nonprofit organization, @frameshifter.org.
Introducing: Frameshifter, a new nonprofit program (fiscally sponsored by @superbloom.design ) accelerating discoveries and inclusion in science through public engagement in research.

Fun thought experiment/writing prompt I came up with the other day:

What if everyone had the ability to bilocate, but only over a short distance (like 10 feet). Or to take it a step further, add another restriction like you can only do half as much/half as fast, or it needs to recharge

Yikes. Interrogating incentives is well within the scope of metascience, and is important for both understanding and building systems to do science as well as understanding how these interests influences the science being done and how

Will be interested to see how this develops, but glad to see the Nuxt folks getting strong support.

Also, branding synergy much? All the triangles!
NuxtLabs, creators of Nuxt and Nitro, are joining Vercel.

Same license, roadmap, and open governance, but now in a joint mission to build the best web.

I want to thank whoever got Matteo Mancuso to play at Syracuse Jazz Fest. His set was amazing, so glad I got to see him live.

I encountered this when revamping Eterna’s base graphics a while back. I actually came up with a “cell shaded” version that this graphic reminded me of, which was cool but ultimately went with a more modern+neutral smoother gradient.
It can be subtle or striking, depending how far you push it, but it just looks so much nicer than simply having a more muddy version of the same colour.
