I'm in this alongside some truly magnificent artists in our industry. It was pretty cathartic talking about this with Ed and I encourage anybody who is concerned about how art in games is made to take a gander.
I spoke to a dozen professional concept artists working in games about whether generative AI image tools have made their jobs easier, even if it's just used in "very early ideation stages."
Zero said "yes." Most said it made their job harder.

One particular way using AI as a reference totally misses the point of having a 'reference' is that, if you're trying to do anything with a level of specificity - to a culture, a time period, a type of garment/device/building - using a garbled version as your starting point dooms you to inaccuracy
Been thinking on the use of GenAi for mood boards. Ethics and legal risks aside, I truly believe using GenAi as references deprives one of many pivotal things.
