Hello and welcome to my post MIGW/PAX/SXSW Sydney wrap up thread for 2025. Enjoy your stay, my opinions are correct, probably. I'm very tired, but in a good way. Sorry for the long thread:

What a two weeks. I saw so many games, met so many wonderful people, and felt even more emotions.
Whomst among us doesn’t love a little ‘Media Watching’ early in the week?

It's so incredibly depressing just *how* quickly even people opposed to the tech, drop their "fuck Al" stance once a big multiplayer game releases that actively uses it. And not even just in development. Al voice acting means it's right there, directly in your earholes when you're playing the thing
Not to be the fun police but I do hope people know that Arc Raiders does use generative AI for voice acting, and by supporting the game you're letting higher-ups know that this is an okay practice.

They try to downplay this on the Steam store page by describing the AI usage as vaguely as possible.

EXCLUSIVE on @gamedeveloper.bsky.social: not only has The Game Awards not nominated a Future Class for 2025, it's told alumni it "does not have any active programming plans" for the award.

The Future Class page was taken down sometime this year—eliminating a definitive archive of honorees.

When @kjpalmer.bsky.social and I worked at EB Games together, some kid called up asking for “Grand Sex Auto” and to this day it might be the funniest joke I’ve ever heard
In 2008, the children would ask me for GTA Eye Vee. In 2013, a new crop of children would ask me for GTA Vee. In 2026, the children will ask a dead eyed clerk for GTA Vee Eye. And so the wheel turns, forever.
Thinking about when I was working retail during the GTA IV launch and people were coming in asking for GTA Eye Vee.

I’m bad at self promoting but if you’re reading this, it’s the last chance you have to support our 3-month-old, non-corporate, reader-funded videogame website as a “Founder” and lock in the baseline subscription price indefinitely.

If you’ve been on the fence and have the means, it’s a good time! 🙏🏽
Hello. About a year and a half ago, some guy called Ralph asked me if I wanted to make a new videogame website.

We're launching it today. Maybe you can even visit it if people stop hammering the server for a second.
