We believe good journalism should be accessible to everyone – so we don’t put our investigations behind paywalls or fill our website with ads

But our resources are limited and we need your support

That's why today we’re launching our Big Give Christmas crowdfunder

Journalists can often be victims of their pre-conceived ideas (see the Times/De Blasio fiasco). One of the ways we've avoided that is by working closely with experts.

Check out this piece by my colleague @lucybrisbane.bsky.social on how we did it in our recent employment tribunals investigation.
I've worked in charities, campaigns & journalism. Often each sector wants the same thing- change. But we rarely join forces to make it happen.

I wrote about how we're trying to create cross sector collaboration at @tbij.bsky.social with advisory groups⬇️

This is one of the obstacles workers face when trying to get the money awarded to them by employment tribunals.

Our investigation found that directors shut down companies & open them up again to avoid paying tribunal awards.

🚨 Our new investigation out today reveals how thousands of people who've taken their bosses to employment tribunals & won, never got paid, even after they approached the government for help.

This has serious implications for the Employment rights bill.

We collaborated with @tbij.bsky.social on this important story.

We represented Nadine at the ET. She was awarded £35k but hasn't received any of it. Workers need co-ordinated action by government agencies to enforce rights. We'll continue to represent our clients to give them the best chance.

Thousands of workers who have fought hard to win employment tribunals are never being paid the money that rogue bosses owe them, with no consequences for bosses but a huge impact on them.

Privileged to be working on this project with the brilliant @mellino.bsky.social and team at @tbij.bsky.social
The government is currently passing through parliament the employment rights bill, which will extend worker and trade union rights

But it’s unclear how this will lead to any meaningful change for those who are still chasing what they’re owed 👇

A beautiful read and a powerful story of small acts of resistance against racism of the past, which is much like that we are seeing from flag flyers today.

If you've got five minutes I'd really recommend having a read and watching the clips ⬇️

Eric Allison, the late great @theguardian.com prison correspondent, went from career criminal to journalist.

We spoke to Prosper less than a year after his son Chris Kaba’s death, in a raw and moving conversation about love, loss, racism and the long fight for justice.

I’m so glad we can finally share that episode again. We cannot forget Chris and his family. Their struggle is far from over.
Today Chris Kaba should be turning 27. Instead, he was killed by Met police in 2022.

We’re bringing back a special episode of Unlawful Killing with his father, Prosper Kaba, to honour Chris and & in solidarity with his family's ongoing fight for justice.
