Waiting on the judgment day
I'm right in the middle of a Schitts Creek rewatch.

Her absolute genius work on this show is gonna hit a little differently now.

Top Ten Films of 2025

1. One Battle After Another
2. Marty Supreme
3. Sinners

This top three was incredibly easy to pick. All three were so immediately powerful and propulsive and obvious masterpieces. Head and shoulders above everything else I saw this year.

Really admired The Testament of Ann Lee.

Great direction and a commanding performance from Amanda Seyfried. Really should have been nominated for this.

In lesser hands this film could have fallen into a mocking tone but Fastvold maintains great respect for the subject matter. It's a great film.

F1?

Seems like there were several other better noms but Apple I guess.

The Best Actor group is really strong.

I'm very happy that Amy Madigan got nominated for Weapons.

January 21, 1993: American track & field icon and 9-time Olympic gold medalist Carl Lewis sings the national anthem before a Bulls-Nets game in New Jersey.

The following day, ESPN’s Charley Steiner famously reacted to Lewis' performance on SportsCenter:

Had an earworm this morning. Not a song, but a line reading from a movie that I find both funny and annoying.

Finally realized what it is:

Alicia Vikander saying "baby" in The Green Knight.

I expected a bit more from The Bone Temple. Felt a little under baked.

Liked the direction and the performances, but the story could have used some refining.

I look forward to watching these every year.

Several on here I've not heard of that I will have to seek out.

Feast your eyes on the first look at Yuen Woo-Ping’s BLADES OF THE GUARDIANS.
Wu Jing, Nicholas Tse, and Jet Li with Tony Leung Ka-Fai, Max Zhang, and Kara Hui!
I can’t imagine anything bigger for Lunar New Year.

The Rip is an effectively fun way to spend a Friday evening.

Too bad it wasn't in theaters and will be swallowed by a streaming algorithm.

In a future cable release this would have eventually become a bit of a classic "dad movie."

The Leftovers
Justified
The Good Place
The Office (UK)
Mad Men

Tough to choose.
Given that apparently the Stranger Things finale was meh (idk, didn't watch it, just the scuttlebutt) and we're not that far removed from the disastrous GOT finale that retroactively made everyone have never cared about the show:

I bought a region-free disc player largely to accommodate the purchase of a box set of Tarr's complete works. Those decisions were based solely on my single viewing of his towering masterpiece Satantango.

Now up through Barton Fink on my Coens rewatch.

Had only seen Barton Fink once and it's fair to say it went over my head all those many years ago. Seeing it now was a bit of a revelation.

Coen Bros rewatch 2026 begins tonight with Blood Simple.

I've seen most of the early Coens stuff just once so this will be a fun start.

Installed these shelves 4 years ago. Added another shelf this year. We'll see how long it will be before I fill in all that empty space.

The Housemaid could have been a few better things but isn't. A bit disappointing.

Amanda Seyfried, though....really great. She carried this one.
