the question is never “why do adoptees deserve their own birth records;” it is always “why does anyone else deserve to take them away.” 🥚

I haven’t been keeping up on this platform much and I want to. It seems the safe new place to be. Still figuring out the ins and outs.

I keep thinking about these important and powerful words by Audre Lorde. I first encountered them while reading our current book (S9) for our podcast, Adoption: The Making of Me. The book is: You Should Be Grateful, by Angela Tucker. These words keep coming to me.

This beautiful post by Chris Erskine. He was one of my favorite LA Times columnists for years. I remember when he suffered the loss of his son and we all followed along with him. He let us into his deepest emotions then and now. He’s so poignant.

🥚 Thanks to Paul Kimball and the California Alliance for Adoptee Rights for making this video. 🎬

🥚 California Alliance for Adoptee Rights (Facebook) has a new video about CA's sealed birth certificate law. It's 12 mins long. Many Calif. legislators know very little about our issue; they are the target audience. I'd like to see this ancient law change in 2025!

This whole thread.
I would suggest that in addition to the forms of family violence described here, we add the entire #adoption industry, which took its modern form less than a century ago, in no small measure owing to the tireless efforts of a literal child thief and trafficker named Georgia Tann.
