Excellent interview with Danya Kukafka about her writing process, particularly how Notes on an Execution evolved. Yes, evolved--novels, especially great ones can take a LONG time to get there. Keep going! podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/i...

#writers looking for agents. You don't have to 'know' someone. I've signed clients from Querymanager and sold their books. Here's a great example--Tamara L. Miller (Into the Fall, Thomas & Mercer 2025) talks about her experience on David Gwyn's Thriller 101 podcast. thriller101.com/tamar…

#writers I opened back up to queries and some people have questioned whether I'm using an algorithm because I respond quickly--nope. I read every query myself and I know what I'm looking for, so yes, I can be fast. I respect every writer who submits. Keep going. I'm rooting for you all. 💪📚

I don’t know how else to explain this…if you’re cheering for someone else’s rights to be taken away, you’re cheering for your own to disappear too. This isn’t cake. You don’t get more by refusing to share. Either everyone has rights, or no one really does. Thats it. It’s simple.

This is 4-8% of my budget. We'll survive. But we are all going to have to buy more books and support the institutions we want to keep around for the next four years.
Really hard to say what the worst part of this NEA grant termination letter is (sent at 10pm on a Friday!) but I think it's finding out the federal government's priority for arts funds is now "fostering AI competency" rather than funding literature.

Coming '26! Mary Thorson's powerfully feminist short stories inspired by true crime. I've been a fan since stumbling on a shoutout to her latest short story on social media. And she's working on a novel! Congrats, @marythor.bsky.social !!!! And nice to work with you Rock and a Hard Place Press!

Ever tried in-person writing meetups?

Local writing groups connect you with like-minded writers and help you carve out dedicated writing time. Even if feedback isn’t built into the program, you can potentially find critique partners there.

Here’s where to look. ⬇️
