Sad news:

The dataset behind this famous chart on the decline in costs of genome sequencing has had its NIH funding cut.

I loved this chart because it was the first that made me appreciate the impact of dataviz. But it also tracked progress towards an ambitious goal ($1000 genome) that succeeded.

Sad to see this amazing research program at #UIUC on #soybean and #plantscience getting shut down. This happened because of the stupidity of closing #USAID. This type of things will hit US farmers pretty hard…

Minimap2-rs v0.1.22 has released! This only fixes a memory segfault under certain conditions. I have added some better examples for using mpsc channels or rayon.

Think your abstract is short?? Think again, this abstract as only 2 words: “probably not” (and it is enough lol) #academics 🧬

Thrilled to announce Boltz-1, the first open-source and commercially available model to achieve AlphaFold3-level accuracy on biomolecular structure prediction! An exciting collaboration with Jeremy, Saro, and an amazing team at MIT and Genesis Therapeutics. A thread!

Very true. Science is a collaborative effort and does not have space for individualism
Doing good science is 90% finding a science buddy to constantly talk to about the project.

#Genomics people 🧬🖥️ working on software development: is anyone of you working with #rust ?? Curious to know what gaps do you believe Rust can fill on the current programs you use. I built some small programs and I was wondering what else would be useful

Have been using #networkx and #polars on #python accelerated to organize large biological graph data. Results are incredible using a single A100 I can increase data processing to feed data into #PyTorch geometric in at least 5x! Totally recommend it!
