Pediatrician for almost 30 years, now retired so I can contribute to giving my grandkids and dog a better quality of life. In favor of democracy, civil rights, vaccines, cookies and mystery novels.
Bored medical curiosity about Patel’s unusual eyes and Googled it. AI, as usual, does not disappoint! So, they can’t confirm that he had a Rudy Giuliani eye transplant??? (We don’t transplant eyes and even corneas are from deceased donors.) 😳

No kings in Anchorage! 3 yo grandson with both his paternal and maternal (me)grandmas 💕. He also had his own sign that said “no kings, yes kisses” but had to borrow mine periodically so he could yell “quack!”.

Reading US news on a visit to Canada is even more surreal. Which city is being invaded this week? We’re arresting toddlers? Which political opponent is being indicted? And Canadians are just up here living in a normal democracy like it’s 2024 or something.

Kennedy’s Vaccine Panel Votes to Limit Access to Covid Shots www.nytimes.com/2025/09/19/h...

Let’s not pretend this is intended to improve safety. Requiring a medical consultation before getting a COVID shot is a barrier and will result in fewer at-risk people being protected.

Florida Moves to End Vaccine Mandates for Schoolchildren www.nytimes.com/2025/09/03/u...

This affects even those who continue to vaccinate. Kids under 2 months of age will catch pertussis (whooping cough) and some will die despite antibiotics. Polio? Measles? We have only “supportive care”.

Today’s New York Times: “critics call it extortion”. It IS extortion! Why to we need to vaguely cite critics? Also, “context” for his BS about ending multiple wars? It’s not context if you’re just expanding on his lies.

Looking for fun sign ideas to protest the Trump-Putin meeting in Alaska this Friday. (I live in Anchorage but wouldn’t be surprised if they end up on the military base, JBER, so protest won’t be near the perpetrators, I mean participants.

Had to put all of the dog toys away to have realtor look at the house and now that they’re back, he’s angrily hoarding them. Spending today on touch-up paint and dog apologies!

Kennedy Cancels Meeting of Key Preventive Health Panel www.nytimes.com/2025/07/10/h...

1. Has your child been exposed to poisons like M & Ms or MMR (vaccine)?
2. Can I see your child’s dental caries? Good-no fluoride!
3. Are you providing the recommended diet of raw milk and random roadkill ?

I won’t defend Murkowski’s reprehensible vote but it does seem wrong that we heap all of the responsibility on her because she admitted to having a conscience before voting in support but we let her colleagues off of the hook because they were too callous to admit it was a terrible bill.

The whiplash is…amazing. This morning I was in clinic and incensed that RFK Jr wants to undermine the progress we’ve made in management of HIV. (It’s literally gone from a death sentence to a manageable chronic illness over the course of my career.)

This evening…starts a war. Truly hard to focus.

Went to Canada for a week for baby snuggles. Came back to find Trump has deployed both National Guard and Marines against protestors, RFK the Lesser has fired the entire ACIP (expert committee on vaccination) and we can’t manufacture our own bananas. Speed of erosion of our democracy is shocking.

In a world where two full time, lower wage jobs barely make ends meet, how does reducing funding for safe childcare improve HEALTH??? The amount of bluster and bs it takes for him to answer a straightforward “who made this decision” question is embarrassing.
Instead of owning up to the fact that HHS blocked billions in federal child care funding at his direction, RFK Jr. stalled, deflected, and lost his temper —only to ultimately admit that the order came from his department.
RFK Jr. lost his temper.

Can’t argue with this….
Our trade deal so far is no tariffs on Rolls Royces and Bentleys and our refugee policy is white South Africans only.

Worst possible double standard. AI is a glorified dart board at this point and the number of RCTs in vaccine efficacy is overwhelming.
For vaccines, only massive RCTs.

For other things, AI.

Pediatricians say that childhood vaccines are safe. A heroin-addled nepo baby with a brain worm says they may not be. For busy voters, it can be hard to know who to believe.

So, “research” is clearly the wrong word here. Does he mean you should check how many 5-star ratings the TDaP vaccine has on Amazon since that’s how you “research” strollers? Maybe he meant “do your own scrolling, watch some TikToks or poll your local mom group”?

Three of my grandkids are Canadian citizens and it really does feel like this for me! (Oldest is six so they didn’t get to vote but they do get to live in a sane democracy!)
genuinely thrilled for my Canadian friends and family, although now it’s like gazing longingly over the fence at your neighbor’s beautiful yard when yours is full of dog poop

Feeling nostalgic for the 50s and 60s? This article shows how close we can be to the “good ‘ole” days. We don’t all have to stop vaccinating. Even if 90% of kids still get MMR, the measles virus can party like it’s 1955!

Just received a routine notice of a new baby. (Pediatrician.) In addition to the usual info., the nurse reported that “he declined the hep B vaccine”. Either she’s had a long night shift or RFK the Lesser has them coming out of the womb refusing vaccines now!
