Being from Minneapolis, these past few weeks have been especially heavy. I’ve been painting fish again to calm my nerves. Here is a tangerine darter in breeding colors for my first #SundayFishSketch in a while.

Another belated (for my time zone) #SundayFishSketch. Here is シロギス Sillago japonica, whose slang in Taiwanese Hokkien 台語 Tâi-gí is 沙腸仔 or "sand intestines" for its slender shape and sandy substrate preferences. Tried it for the first time as sashimi recently, lovely! #TaiwanFishes #台灣魚類 🦑🐡🧪

Shovel-tuskers! Ancient elephants like Amebelodon are an evolutionary success story, and we’re only just starting to understand how they used their exceptional jaws. I’ll tell you more at Smithsonian. 🧪
Strange, Shovel-Tusked Elephants Puzzled Paleontologists, Until Experts Took a Closer Look at Their Teeth
The animals' extended lower jaws were seemingly made for scooping, but research over the past few decades has found they could do a lot more than initially expected

OK so it's Monday here but it's still Sunday the other half of the world. Here's my late #SundayFishSketch of an arapaima, inspired by a fun reel that my friend @seaofglitter shared, giving me a #SciComm chance to say "hey, that's a real fish actually!" 😄🦑🐡🧪

Pleistocene steppe bison Bison Priscus. It inhabited Europe, Asia, and North America until the early Holocene and is the ancestor of modern European bison and American bison.
I'm not sure if it's noticeable, but I was inspired by ancient images of bison and Altamira and other caves.

And the crab effigy vessel is mostly done !

There will be some fine tuning, and adding white slip, but normally no larger change.
I think it is too triangular in the back, and the legs are improvised, but I only had pictures from the front.
