I’ve now aged out of this but navigating the pestering attention of older men in my field—which varied from manipulative flattery when they were trying to sleep with you to contemptuous retaliation when they realized they couldn’t—was an exhausting and demoralizing tax of my early professional life.
Keep coming back to Summers’ annoyance that this female mentee he’s trying to sleep with “takes her presentation very seriously.” To men like this—to a lot of men—women’s intellectual or professional ambition is an irritating presumption that they condescend to tolerate.
The emails have Summers reporting to Epstein about his attempts to date a Harvard economics student & to hit on her during a seminar she was giving.

New: Conde Nast fired four employees who were among a group that confronted the company's head of human resources on Wednesday over the decision to fold Teen Vogue into Vogue/recent cuts. Employees who were fired included journalists from the New Yorker, Wired, and Bon Appétit.

The NYT showed us this morning that even the most respected institutions think it’s OK to perpetuate the subjugation of one demographic group only: women

Imagine if this headline had been written about any other group. Heads would’ve rolled.

Mexico's president filed police charges against a man who groped her, while she was speaking to supporters on a street in the capital.

"If I don’t file a complaint, then what message does that send to all Mexican women?"

Damn straight

I just heard a mainstream news reporter refer to Abigail Spanberger (46) and Mikie Sherril (53) as “quite young.”

Ffs

This is the kind of oblivious sexism that has a direct impact on how the media reports on women politicians.

Everything we know abt "Frankenstein" is wrong.

Say what?

No movie has told the real story from the 1818 novel. They've all just been forms of fan fiction, repurposing the orig into monster movies, vs the gorgeous story it actually was.

I explain why:

Man asks Claude to check his article about the demolition of the East Wing.

Claude insists this is fictional, bc if such an event had happened, it would be major international news, and as of yet, Claude is not aware of it

😮
I use Claude (an AI) to scan my posts for spelling and grammar errors. On the most recent post (about the East Wing, link below), I got a really amazing addendum.

In all the (justified) uproar about the East Wing demolition @lizaboyd.bsky.social noted that the East Wing was the home of the Office of the First Lady and that by tearing it down, it's another of the administration's efforts to reduce the visibility of women across the board.

Today's complaint about the AI in education discourse: Too much of it is framed around a future that is going to happen to us, as opposed to seeing the future as something we may have some agency to shape. I reject the deterministic view of AI, particularly genAI. It's a tool, not our master.

If you were too young in 2003 here is what Bush told the American people:

1) The Iraq War won’t cost a lot of money
3) We won’t need a lot of troops
4) We’ll bring peace and freedom to Iraq
5) We’ll find WMDs
6) We’ll be welcomed as liberators
7) It will be easy
8) It won’t take long

All lies.

It’s insane that Dems are repeating the name he gave it & calling it the “Big Beautiful Bill.” They’re playing into his hands by making it sound nice

They need to rebrand it, to make it clear what it actually is:

“The Big Beautiful ‘Steal Everything from You’ Bill”

Any other suggestions?

This feels like AI’s “Theranos”, so question: Will the founders be prosecuted for securities fraud?

Or is that just reserved for female founders?
Valued at $1.5 billion in 2023 with backing from Microsoft & Qatar's sovereign wealth fund, the company filed for bankruptcy protection this week after revelations that its "AI-powered" platform relied on 100s of engineers in India while executives orchestrated a years-long financial deception
