We watched all the Hunger Games movies in the past week after the stupid related news thing. The main series is actually excellent filmmaking, screenwriting, beautiful soundtrack, mostly solid performances (especially in movies 2-4).

The prequel? I dunno what tf anyone associated was thinking. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Dear Santa,

I have been a very good enby this year. As such please consider the following as gifts for me:

- make billionaires pay taxes
- implemented and enforced wealth tax
- use that to fund UBI
- proper regulation of GenAI tech and companies
- make fascism marginal again

Cheers,

That the person who intervened was a Muslim brings be joy, not because I think there’s anything exceptional about Muslims and Jews saving one another, quite the opposite—it’s because it reminds us of our collective ability to cut through the bullshit and see and cherish others’ humanity.

Two people tried to extinguish the light of Chanukah through murderous violence.

But was is one man, Ahmed al-Ahmed, whose flashlight shone through the darkness they wrought, a reminder of Chanukah’s message that in the longest of nights, a tiny flame can dispel much darkness.

I've always held that:

a) wisdom emerges from exposure to and reflection on *diverse* experiences

b) post-secondary is just one of many avenues for higher learning

Controversial take but *none* of the courses I took were fruitless. Worst case: I learned where my interests do and don't lie.
This is actually a good example of why the customer model is wrong.

I wouldn't have chosen poetry writing, but UNC made me take a class. And it absolutely made me become a much better writer, with an eye to concision and an ear now trained to the rhythm of words. I'm a better historian as a result.
If you are providing me with an education that is low utility in the world then it’s a disservice. My composition class spent four weeks on poetry. I’m sorry, but that only would’ve been useful if I wanted to be a poet. I don’t need to know iambic pentameter in order to be a victim advocate.

The fact that four hostile drones tried to hit Zelenskyy’s plane & it’s barely a blip in the news cycle should terrify everyone. We’ve been dragged so deep into the chaos era that an attempted strike on a world leader doesn’t even break through. When this becomes normal, the world is in real danger.

Met with a career/resume consultant today. Hardest (still very sensible) thing for me to hear was that my education (twice in post-secondary, no degrees, programs unrelated to my work) needs to be removed because it gets in the way of my work experience speaking for itself.

This gives me "oil companies convincing us the existence of carbon capture supports the idea of more oil extraction" vibes.
Data centres are energy hungry but what if we could use their waste heat to heat our homes?

That's exactly what happens in places like Finland: Cities are tapping the vast amounts of waste heat generated by data centres, and feeding it into district-heating networks.
