I'd like to say that the moment in FMW's SSiB arc where Reimu uses Fantasy Nature was a Zeta Gundam Battle of Gryps Deus Ex Kamille reference but I'm not supposed to watch mecha anime anymore because someone else made a bad take over Emma Sheen ZetaGundam so I don't have the knowledge to confirm lol
Why bother with shit that takes 4 games to say the obvious "Mecha anime is better than soy-ass canon Touhou amirite" when you can skip that middleman like a normal person.

Problem with the indieshit crowd trying to emulate older arcade games is that said arcade games may not have the biggest dev budget, but they still have a pretty big budget usually, especially with juggernauts like SEGA

I wonder if Sonic Team, AM2, and all the other subsidiaries of Sega (or at least their employees) would've fared better artistically if Sega actually went bankrupt after the Dreamcast era instead of hanging on via forgiven depts and third party malarkey

Can't help but feel like arcade 1CC culture is of a similar vein, a prototype, to Soulscucks inventing their own rules, especially when on the spot continues started being a common thing in arcade games and 1CC/JP arcade queue culture being the only real way to balance said continue mechanics
I think your perspective is limited, Elden Ring is popular because it's a really accessible ARPG that you can play with your friends and create really strong builds to overcome the game, the reputation for difficulty is guarded by a playerbase who invented their own rules for playing
