2. It was not a staffer.
3. While the president may have dementia his racism is not due to dementia.
4. He isn’t sorry. He means every racist thought he shares.
5. His base agrees with him.
6. He will do it again.
7. No one in power will hold him accountable.

Having a spouse who's allergic to eggs has been a master class in the lack of awareness about food allergies. I asked a local business recently if their empanadas were made with egg. Their response: "Nope! Our dough is vegan! :) It does have an egg wash though." 🤦🏻‍♀️

It was an honour to write a blurb for @mishasolomon.bsky.social's debut collection, My Great-Grandfather Danced Ballet, coming out in the spring with Brick Books. Can't wait to see this book out in the world! Pre-order it!
Today (Dec. 10) is my 35th birthday, which feels like an apt time to share some inconceivably kind and generous and astute things four of my favourite writers said about my book (Mar. 17).
Profound gratitude to Danez Smith, Liz Howard, @lisarichter.bsky.social, and @helloiamben.bsky.social!

Great to see my dear friend @benjaminlefebvre.com's important critical work on L.M. Montgomery mentioned in this CBC article.
“Why was her legacy so sanitized? Why was my teacher so adamant that Montgomery couldn’t have suffered? Why were so many readers unaware — as I was up until two years ago — that Rilla of Ingleside isn’t actually where the story ends?”

Libraries purchase books. When you see a book at the library, it isn’t “free”

the library bought it.

which in turn means that the community bought it.

In other words, library books are not lost sales for authors and publishers; they’re positive sales. Active sales. Those are bought.

Sometimes I miss the fabulous vintage clothes I had in the 90s. A pair of amazing denim bellbottoms I bought for $10 off a rack on the street in Montreal that I stapled instead of hemmed. A purple velvet evening gown from the 50s. I miss the abundance of cheap treasures that were not "curated."

Heads up, fellow #TorontoCyclists
Harbord cyclists beware: in the new lanes some sewer grates have been put in the death position by contractors. This @ Manning just ate my tire but luckily was coming to a stop. Jarring still. At speed I’d be over the handlebars. There were others along way.

I wrote a thing, and I'm quite proud of it, if I do say so myself. My thoughts on where a poem begins, randomness, surprising yourself in a poem, strangeness, and more. Thank you to @robmclennan.bsky.social for inviting me to contribute to this fantastic series on where (and how) a poem begins.

AI is not sentient. It doesn't have a survival instinct. What's happened is that corporations have decided that we'll all obey capital if it can pretend to talk.

I've seen several people refer to AI-resisters as having their heads in the sand over the last few days. But resisting doesn't mean the same thing as ignoring something. On the contrary, resisting means engaging with research, parsing information, offering critique, and making informed choices.
