My take on Kevin Warsh: Markets have breathed a sigh of relief that Trump isn't trying to install Hassett as Fed chair. But Warsh is also a political animal; he just hides it better.

Does Friday's silver crash end the debasement trade? No. Friday's crash was inevitable after the crazy run-up in recent weeks. Signal to watch is rate markets. 2-year Treasury yield fell after the Kevin Warsh news. That's bullish for the debasement trade...

The saying goes that "there are no atheists in foxholes." Maybe Kevin Warsh is a balance sheet hawk, but - when push comes to shove and markets are collapsing - he'll do QE just like everyone else. We are trapped and the debasement trade will keep going...

Silver fell 26% yesterday. That sounds apocalyptic, but that only takes silver back to January 12, i.e. it only erases 2 weeks worth of gains. That's testament to how nuts the precious metals rally got lately, but also to how massive the debasement trade is.

Think warsh is a very dangerous pick personally. In large part he wants the fed to be less powerful and do less and the only way that happens is if large parts of its effective tools and powers are handed to the treasury.
Economic thinking is probably the area where the democratization effect of fintwit had the best effect, where good faith people without access to the halls of power could put forth their ideas, analysis, and forecasts. And the split on Warsh seems in large part driven by this dynamic.
