The second black-out poetry hang out at Poncho's Cafe in Langford was a lovely time! Thank you all for coming out and being creative together as queer, neurodivergent creatives.

What should our next gathering craft be?

Did some more blackout #Poetry with @lilypadyyj.bsky.social and nobody got in a car accident this time!

Is there anything better than physically ripping apart an old copy of HP to make #TransRights art?
(And one about me learning to shut up too XD)

Look at the amazing work you are doing my friend! The detail is fantastic, beautifully done, I'm very excited to see it mounted :D
Discord dragon may have started me on a mirroring tirade @lilypadyyj.bsky.social when does crafting go too far?

Just had a delightful pop-up Blackout #Poetry session with @lilypadyyj.bsky.social !

(Even though two friends got in a car accident on the way over to us 😭 they're okay but couldn't make the session)

I made three! Here they are!

Musing on the idea that we need to get better at admitting when we don't know what we are doing. The pressure to always look like we know everything, that we have all the right answers, diminishes the importance of learning and making mistakes and continual change making.

Also I finished my first wearable piece of crochet! Wrist warmers made from a beautiful yarn of possum and merino wool that @jrade-writes.bsky.social and @magarie.bsky.social got me in New Zealand! They are imperfect and mismatched, I didn't use a pattern, and I'm very pleased with them.

Update on my embroidery project! Did I mess up the letter spacing like I always did when drawing posters in school? Of course!

I learned today that oxe-eye daisies are edible and so I'm trying a caper recipe from this beautiful book Forage by Liz Knight!

Must get better at remembering to take photos of stuff I make. Did it really happen if I don't post about it? Of course it did, but I also (much to my surprise) actually want to share!

Do you ever feel like you need to be using all of your brain's processing power all at once all the time, so you have embroidery to do, you're listening to music, and you have a video playing in the background?

So proud of you my friend! Definitely pre-ordering as soon as it's available :D
Excited to announce my short story, to be published in an anthology by @ddanddauthor.bsky.social - "A Thorn's Rose."

"To a Flame" is mine; 10k words.

It's a sort of queer coming-of-age type story, but with a giant moth lady.

Stay tuned for more!

Set up my tapestry stand with a pattern of my favourite #dimension20 quotes. Matt bought this for me on Etsy probably two years ago? Sometimes you gotta change things up from the usual flowers and nature motifs and just embroider some good old fashioned Molotov cocktails.

Wow these are beautiful motifs, and yes I love to see how patterns and trends repeat through history. Art is iterative!
It's always interesting to me how clearly 60's psychadelic art was inspired by 1920's graphic design--these are from 1922

Debate: where does the phrase "shits and giggles" come from? Share your ideas below. Wrong answers only (unless you can genuinely find a correct answer, we've tried, they don't seem correct)

From Maia: @jrade-writes.bsky.social and @magarie.bsky.social showed up with these adorable minis for our current campaign today. So grateful for getting to participate in shared storytelling with these beautiful people.
May 4, 2025 at 8:43 PM
Beautifully done, yes let's normalize this practice!
Absolutely.
A note to authors: they don't need to spoil things. You don't have to get *that* specific, just give a heads-up.
Example included.
Anyone want to give thoughts on mine pictured here? Too descriptive? Too vague? Feedback always welcome

Yeah! A goofy cute little guy like this!

From Maia: Sitting on the bus heading home, thinking about what sneaky little craft I should do when I get there. Today might be a "make a goofy little guy out of clay" kind of day.

Loving the play of the shadow across my face from this apple tree in full blossom. The bees are buzzing, the flowers are...scenting? Just happy to get outside and remember we all exist beyond our 9-5s.

#writingtips: Trajectory Tuesday!
Think of things present in your plot - story arcs, character development, etc. - as thrown objects. They follow a smooth path. If they suddenly deviate, there's a reason: hit something, strong wind, etc. Same is true in your story! Changes should have reasons.

From Maia: Anyone else reconnecting with what it means to step into their own creativity after years of shutting down any original thought from fear of what it would mean to submit said thought to the masses for criticism online? Just me? Cool.
April 30, 2025 at 1:50 AM
From Maia: apparently this app is a good place to hang and be creative as a neurospicy queer. My friendos and I are growing Lilypad as a way to gather together and do art and stuff with weirdo peeps like us on the Victoria BC area. Can you tell I'm severely out of practice with social media?
