Same thing happened in Fall 2024, when the feds released a report on Long Covid that explicitly state that repeat infections are dangerous, the risk of developing LC is cumulative, and that 1 in 5 Canadians adults had Long Covid. Not a word from Canadian media.

This is why you never capitulate. This would be the end of Columbia university. It would be a testing ground for the direct fascist takeover of private universities by a dictator.

Not only is Pierre Poilievre and his team using slogans constantly in an attempt to get votes they are adding emojis to them in emails to show how serious they are.

Next up they will be using gifs.

Just got a phone call inviting me to the next Pierre Poilievre rally with a robo call voiced by none other than J. D. Vance's BFF Jamil Jivani. The number of worn out PP slogans used in the call tripled it in length.

No, I will not be going.

Yesterday, Poilievre was posting about how the Canadian Pacific Railway might not even be able to be built today.

Um, there’s a pretty good reason for that: the abuse and deaths of Chinese workers who built the railroad.

Academics in the US & Canada: reflect on leadership at your institutions.

Has management been kowtowing to political and corporate demands?

Does your Board of Directors hide its work?

Have hires in admin outpaced hires in faculty & staff?

Then you have a problem.

#ElbowsUp #Gleichschaltung
On CBC Radio MetroMorning, a US academic from Yale is moving to the University of Toronto ("the Crown Jewel" of Canada, he says).

Why? Because of US ideology and the moves that the fascist Trump regime is taking against universities. The word being used is "harbinger".

#Gleichschaltung
While so many continue to pretend that it’s not fascism that we’re seeing in the US, here’s Trump continuing his policies of Gleichschaltung. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

To those who feel this way, you might not know if you are “vulnerable”. Many illnesses that could leave you more open to long term consequences can sneak by undetected UNTIL something pushes them over the edge and then BOOM!! Ask me how I know!
“Covid is only a risk to the vulnerable”.

The comfortable lie that allowed most of the world to rush back to normal. To ignore a global pandemic that’s killing and disabling millions.

Tossing the “vulnerable” aside for comfort paved the way for fascism.

Wear a mask. Stand with disabled people.

“Create a ruckus” = co-write a (not even particularly strident) op-ed for a student newspaper.

Americans, you need to fight like hell, because they’re coming for everyone who dissents.
Marco Rubio on Rumeysa Ozturk: "We revoked her visa ... once you've lost your visa, you're no longer legally in the United States ... if you come into the US as a visitor and create a ruckus for us, we don't want it. We don't want it in our country. Go back and do it in your country."

Just a reminder that the higher ed system in Canada is in total crisis and part of pur productivity problem comes from there. And that this approach isn't actually fixing anything. It needa to be accompanied by massive public investments.
One less-noticed success in the Canadian counteroffensive: The most famous thinkers at Yale — specifically writers on fascism — are being serially scooped up by the U of T’s Munk School as they express a desire to flee the Trump assaults on universities
