Look, believe what you want. I don’t judge. But it’s hilarious when people think they can offend me by calling the Bible “fiction”. Some of the truest stories humans ever told are fiction. Being a product of someone’s creative imagination doesn’t diminish them in any way.

What if, instead of funding a new White House ballroom, Jeff Bezos let #SNAP recipients get free groceries at Whole Foods?

Just for the record—Republicans have shut down the government now for almost a month because they are that committed to the idea that health care ought to be a privilege for those who can afford it, not a right for everyone. It’s immoral.

Being perpetually outraged, even at the legitimately outrageous, is exhausting. Take care of yourselves. Be gentle and kind with the people next to you. Laugh. Do fun things. Read some history, and/or historical fiction, to get your head out of the present. This could be a long ride.

Another Republican opposed to republicanism. They should really just rename themselves the Tory party.
This is so indefensibly insane: Speaker Johnson is refusing to seat Congresswoman-elect Adelita Grijalva because she'll be the 218th vote to release the Epstein files. Johnson swore in Rep Walkinshaw (VA) w/in 24 hours.

Johnson is abandoning his job to instead protect a convicted child sex predator

Some of the world is apparently just learning this week that it hurts to lose someone you care about to gun violence. Took longer than I expected, but hey, here we all are. Can we now work together and do something? We don’t have to live like this.

I didn’t know who Charlie Kirk was. In the clips and quote I have seen since yesterday, he seems like a real jerk. But being a jerk doesn’t mean you deserve to get shot. No more than going to school, or shopping, or going to a movie or concert or place of worship—no one deserves to get shot.

Republicans have another opportunity to realize there are no “liberal” or “conservative” diseases. Everyone benefits from a competent Center to Control Disease. Just like everyone is hurt by a lack of such control. (Same with public policy generally, fwiw, but let’s start here with germs.)

Cost of Trump's D.C. Occupation: $1.1M per day.

Cost to operate public housing for D.C.'s entire homeless population: $169,226 per day.

It's not about what this country can or can’t afford.

It’s about priorities.

If someone objects to #FlagBurning because Veterans faught/died “for the flag,” they are not only worshiping a false idol, they also clearly don’t realize what the flag actually symbolizes. #FreedomOfSpeech #ThanksVets

Re: Dobson’s passing…I don’t believe in conventional ideas of hell. I think James is experiencing the acceptance & love which he cruelly withheld from so many. This may torment his soul, as he walks the streets of heaven, encountering the departed saints he hurt. But God doesn’t hurt. God loves.

The logic of slavery is alive and well. Otherwise, the people whose labor generates the wealth ought to have more of a share in it.
The clearest picture of corporate greed in this country is CEO-to-worker pay ratios.

At the 100 lowest-paying major US companies, CEO pay averaged $17.2M in 2024.

Median worker pay at these companies was just $35,570.

That’s a ratio of 632 to 1.

How can anyone defend this?

Sorry Republicans, you can’t actually control reality. Saying Climate Change is a hoax won’t stop the climate from changing. Taking away boxes on forms won’t erase Transgender Americans. Firing the people who count things won’t change actual nos. Time to face reality www.nytimes.com/live/2025/07...

Why do Republicans keep wanting to make life harder?
Three Republican-appointed judges just made it harder to cancel subscriptions you don’t want.

It's absurd that you can't just click to cancel.

Lina Khan fought for that change.

But now companies can trap you in subscriptions and squeeze you for every penny.

I used to at least respect Republicans’ value of fiscal responsibility. Disagreed on spending priorities, but I respected the value. This Big Ugly Bill is the most fiscally irresponsible budget I think I’ve ever seen. It’s inhuman and nakedly greedy for billionaires. It’s absolutely disgusting.
