I’m quite astonished by this book and it’s blurb. Is this even allowed? Can we all just slightly change existing books by tweaking details?

Just discovered the Evolution of Horror podcast by @mikemuncer.bsky.social and it’s brilliant. He’s genial company, an excellent interviewer and has provided a wonderful lens through which to view my favourite movie genre. Can’t recommend enough.

@pictureparlour.bsky.social are releasing an album this November? Yes! Love this band’s music. The record will have to make up for the fact that I seem perennially unable to see them play live. Can’t wait.

Never seen the US extended cut of The Shining until right now. Crikey those skeletons are a bit shite. Liked some of the early expositional stuff. Maybe a transatlantic version would be nice with less Wendy and Danny watching telly…

Reading Lewis’ The Monk for the first time. Forsooth, he’s got one inflamed ardour! I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to get to it.

Well, colour me excited about this. My copies are old and knackered. Might have to treat myself
"Very, very few horror writers of the era take such an elegantly expansive, nihilistic approach to their stories, in which traditional meta-narratives are not reinforced but eroded by their exposure,"

Just taken my daughter to a vip suite cinema night for her birthday. Legally Blonde. A very charming film but I found myself getting obsessed with awkward ADR. Great autistic coding in Elle Woods though…

Creative Writing book recommendation - Maass suggests writers focus on their own aims but not enough on how their readers should have some kind of emotional response. This is a practical book for writers who want to move hearts as well as minds.

Creative Writing Book Recommendation - Moran posits a writer's power comes not from word choice (seemingly the purview of the beginner writer) but from an understanding of how syntax works as a rhythmic and propulsive force. Want to improve?

CW book recommendation - Alison explodes the myth that we have to adhere to the natural form of the "wave narrative" found in the Aristotolian three act structure; here she argues we can write in fractals, spirals, undulations. Mind blowing.
