Interest in generative linguistics, history of photography, biomedical research, astrophysics, history (1930s), art criticism, critical history ...

But really just an old fuddy-duddy occupying time with reading, photography, and travel.
"... moving 'from evidence-based decision-making to decision-based evidence-making' ..." A valid way of putting it.

Neural mechanisms of visual selective attention - PubMed
Visual selective attention improves our perception and performance by modifying sensory inputs at an early stage of processing. Spatial attention produces the most consistent early modulations of visual processing, which can be observed when attention is voluntarily allocated to locations. These eff …

Oh, do we have artists in New Mexico? Try Georgia O'Keefe. She who taught us about ourselves through erotic botany and then showed us the Ghost Ranch near Abiquiu.

Taken about 300 yards from her house at 11pm.

Focus stackung.
1. Not useful for moving objects of any kund.
2. The technique renders useless the use of bokeh to gigglight depth.

This is 100% performance politics. It doesn't matter a bit to MAGA if this is constitutional or not.

The power to impose tariffs falls within the federal government’s authority in the Constitution, not the states.

Portraying one's experience through a lens is very, very hard. I guess that's why bad photographers (like moi) gravitate toward full-frame cameras. We can retrieve a shot or two by massive cropping.

FWIW, I do love my Pentax K1ii.

We went to the Barnardo bird preserve again this morning. A week ago, we went down. There were no cranes at that point. The drive there is nice because it is just the kind that gets very good gasoline mileage.

Distance to preserve, one way: 33 miles
Mileage: 50.6 mpg, 4.65 L/100
Total cranes: 50

I should hop in the car and go down to see if the birds have arrived at Bernardo. I'll tell you, though, that I am still in shock about the cancelation of the 2025 Festival of the Cranes at Bosque del Apache NWR.

I just can't not post this. These three are literally writing history. I can only hope that it isn't the history of the end of this country.
November 1, 2025 at 5:00 AM
Thanks to MAGA extremism, the yearly Festival of the Cranes at Bosque del Apache NWR has been canceled.

I can't yell you how terrible this is for the central New Mexico economy, for photographers, and for the cranes.
