Another difficult post-op day, and the children unexpectedly dropped by at naptime (for me). The kid who argues for 20 minutes about writing one word wrote *five* without prompting. With his sweet and sincere message, I've been reassured that my life has purpose and my work has value. Yay.

Wearing pajamas for 2 weeks got me thinking: why wear street clothes at all? Just wear Zoom appropriate pajamas for meeting. Delivery people may offer to bring stuff inside once they see you in pajamas and after 10:00 AM,. You never have to sniff your bra ciups to see if it can last another day.

Today I did laundry, showered, did PT, made myself a tuna fish sandwich, and took care of a youngster who did his best Eddie Izzard Cake or Death routine, except the choices were going to Math Class or Someone's gonna die.

It's 6:00 PM and I'm in bed. I think that's enough for a Thursday.

Being a Chipper Depressive personality usually has ups and downs but this week's been a total downer. Pain, frustration there's no food to rip open &eat immediately, +plumbing issues. At 5:00PM, 8 days post surgery, we can finally wash sheets, clothes, dishes, flush at will, & boil an egg or two.
November 20, 2025 at 1:08 AM
My surgery was a week ago and I'm just starting to feel good enough I wish I felt good enough to do something.

Read this thread or more. Erasing people's contributions and national sacrifice is another way of erasing their humanity.
1/ The US Government has quietly removed a memorial to Black soldiers who died in World War II from the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten, South Limburg. The move follows a complaint from the right-wing Heritage Foundation to the American Battle Monuments Commission. ⬇️

My mother was 11, her sister 3, her brother almost 2. Their family hid in the apartment above their shop as the SA and their neighbors and SA terrorized them in the small town of Weseke, Germany near the Dutch border.https://encyclopedia.ushmm.org/content/en/article/kristallnacht

It's that kind of day. Argue with Blue Cross/Blue Shield. Cut up farm share pumpkin, peppers, onions, and tomatoes for Shakshuka and realize you're so rattled from the Blue Cross thing you forgot garlic. Open a bottle. Watch the returns.

I don't know who to believe anymore. Fox Sports or Fox Sports?

Game Three, top of the 17th. This game has gone on so long my fully-charged laptop just shut down and I've decided no game is worth actually having to attentively watch it without being distracted by social media.
October 28, 2025 at 6:12 AM
I have not watched TV in almost a month. A big decision awaits: Dodgers game or Slow Horses? I'd have to subscribe to something to watch the game.

Duolingo has been down at least four hours for a "quick maintenance break"and here I am in France, speaking French every day, and I'm afraid I'll lose my 479 day practice streak because we're 9 hours ahead and it's 22:00 and I'm falling asleep.

We like walking through as many arrondissements as possible just because, which has been difficult for me this trip because my knee is shot. I discovered there's less pain when I walk with my bad knee closest to the buildings because the sloped sidewalks hurts my knee otherwise.

Maybe because we're old or we're always laughing or because I'm hobbling & people feel sorry for me or want to reward my persistence but French people have been showering us with gifts. Boxes of chocolate. Wine. Today we got Huître Ostra Régal OR N°2. That does it. I'm not going back.
October 17, 2025 at 7:20 PM
As my daughter once said re: moving away: A lot of people would have to die before I could live in France. Sigh. Next best thing is planning my next visit. I hope it will be easier to get around by then. Everything is très difficile now and I'm lucky for my sisters' help to get around.

There were some language issues but I think the friendly conference door dragon was bragging that I could be retrained so I wouldn't have to be a writer and could make a career having A I help me work better, smarter.

We took a taxi hailed by waving my cane when the bus we were awaiting was going to be another 35 minutes late. The radio was on & I said, "Is this Huntr/x? And the driver seemed shocked I knew about KPop Demon Hunters. But je suis Mira when I perform w/my petite-fille for her stuffed animal fans.

Was unsure if I'd even be able to leave our apartment because of the difficulty of walking in the last six-nine months but I've been able to hobble about up to 5 miles a day with a cane, a too-tight brace, pills, lidocaine patches, motivation, and stubbornness.
