Another difficult post-op day, and the children unexpectedly dropped by at naptime (for me). The kid who argues for 20 minutes about writing one word wrote *five* without prompting. With his sweet and sincere message, I've been reassured that my life has purpose and my work has value. Yay.

Being a Chipper Depressive personality usually has ups and downs but this week's been a total downer. Pain, frustration there's no food to rip open &eat immediately, +plumbing issues. At 5:00PM, 8 days post surgery, we can finally wash sheets, clothes, dishes, flush at will, & boil an egg or two.

It's that kind of day. Argue with Blue Cross/Blue Shield. Cut up farm share pumpkin, peppers, onions, and tomatoes for Shakshuka and realize you're so rattled from the Blue Cross thing you forgot garlic. Open a bottle. Watch the returns.

We like walking through as many arrondissements as possible just because, which has been difficult for me this trip because my knee is shot. I discovered there's less pain when I walk with my bad knee closest to the buildings because the sloped sidewalks hurts my knee otherwise.

Maybe because we're old or we're always laughing or because I'm hobbling & people feel sorry for me or want to reward my persistence but French people have been showering us with gifts. Boxes of chocolate. Wine. Today we got Huître Ostra Régal OR N°2. That does it. I'm not going back.

As my daughter once said re: moving away: A lot of people would have to die before I could live in France. Sigh. Next best thing is planning my next visit. I hope it will be easier to get around by then. Everything is très difficile now and I'm lucky for my sisters' help to get around.

There were some language issues but I think the friendly conference door dragon was bragging that I could be retrained so I wouldn't have to be a writer and could make a career having A I help me work better, smarter.

Was unsure if I'd even be able to leave our apartment because of the difficulty of walking in the last six-nine months but I've been able to hobble about up to 5 miles a day with a cane, a too-tight brace, pills, lidocaine patches, motivation, and stubbornness.

Getting a new knee 2 weeks after getting home & wasn't sure I could walk at all but found myself at the top of a hill in Marseillle & it was either go down & back up or sit at the train station until my sisters returned, so walked 5 miles. Some ouches. www.marseilletourisme.fr/en/places-se....

Things I love about Nimes: you can see one of the best preserved Roman amphitheaters from your toilet window and wonder at the old and the new. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arena_o...

Terrible day today. By the time I was off-duty helping others recover from trauma I was too upset to do all I need to do before leaving for 3 weeks. Didn't want to open a bottle of wine and leave it sitting so I drank shots to calm down and now I'm too drunk to pack and finish my work.

Me, trying to finish the short story I should have finished months ago while spouse yells the newest news at me from his chair in the other room and I madly prepare chicken nuggets and noodles and cucumber slices before the children's unexpected visit.

There is now a puppy & he's so much more work than just watching the kids. When I'm doing childcare the dog comes over. He's charmed the dogophobic granddaughter& charmed her mother. All 4 grandparents are on board, too. I might need my own puppy soon. Trying....To.... Resist....

We are at that point in the morning where Thing One has run around so much he is too tired to do much more than sling himself over the rolling chair and try to push himself around the room using only his feet.

The boy found a bag of rubberbands & had a "great idea" to lock my bookshelf to keep thieves from breaking in & stealing books. He's a little obsessed with my books, not because he is interested in what I do or in reading them, but because I have multiple copies he wants to sell for toy money

Not sure why I thought it would be easy to dig up&re-pot a tall spiky cactus in a shiny red Oaxacan-style planters but I was too far into the project before I realized I had made a terrible mistake. The cactus has many pups clinging around the base. It was so effing heavy. The pot is 19" tall x 22".

I saw this growing through the fence boards and tried to cut it down but it's too hard and thick to topple. When I looked over the fence I saw it was about two-feet across by a foot wide. I think it is a Turkey Tail (Trametes versicolor) mushroom. I submit to nature.
