A reminder that crypto mining continues to be one of the world's most severe wastes of energy and one of the most shockingly pointless causes of environmental harm

Like generative ML, you have to burn more energy for every new dollar of profit. Death spiral ensues

As @glenpeters.bsky.social says, we're way off target for any 1.5°C scenario.

To see how far off, each of the red/green bars represents the decrease in CO₂ emissions during COVID. Even if we achieved that from now until the end of 2030, we would still miss our 1.5°C target by a significant margin.

ICE vehicles waste a whopping 80% of the energy in their fuel. Electric vehicles are propelled by entirely different mechanisms. Energy enters the vehicle as electricity, which directly powers the drivetrain: EVs need not convert one form of energy to another resulting in much higher efficiency.

@mumsforlungs.bsky.social I really appreciate all the work that you do. I live in Brussels and am trying to connect with air pollution campaigners here. I came up with the slogan 'Don't burn where we breathe' - if it all helps please feel free to use it! laratheescapeartist.com/2025/10/24/d...

Another excellent #nofly holiday #flightfree from Brussels to the Black Forest in Germany. It's a 1108km round trip in our Touran (emissions of 0.145kgCO2/km) for the four of us=0.04tonnesCO2 per person. A short haul flight to just about anywhere in Europe would be at least 10 times more per person.
