Endurance. That’s amazing!
Old Tjikko - A 9,550 year old Norway spruce, Fulufjället Mountain, Sweden 🌲

A clonal tree that has regenerated new trunks, branches and roots over its lifetime

So whilst it cannot claim to be the oldest tree in the world, it has been here that long

Today’s show was my last at CNN. My closing message: It’s never a good time to bow down to a tyrant… don’t give in to the lies. Don’t give in to fear. Hold on to the truth… and hope.

Unfortunately we had to cancel the press conference. But we met w/KS legislators to discuss our Survivors' Rights bill to give adult CSA survivors access to their DCF records & extend civil SOL to 55 yrs. Great day to spend breaking the silence of child sexual abuse & raising awareness!

Nice to have a sister in law that when you ask “Can you help recover a cushioned easy chair for my gnome?” & send her photo. She answers w/“Awwww! But yeah, not his vibes. What type of fabric are you using?” Then offers to figure it out & hand sews a new cover. Thanks, Catherine, Gnelson loves it!

Very snowy weekend. KCI & highways closed. Been sleeting & snowing since Sat noon. Blizzard tonight. I’m lucky in a warm house w/a full pantry. With lots of time worrying about my son & his girlfriend who are waiting out the storm & will try to drive home tomorrow. #2024Bizzard

The total lack of oversight for safety of children stood out to me. I wonder if there's data regarding children being abused while attending voucher schools? My work focuses on child sexual abuse. I know predators actively seek out situations that give them easy access to children. #KSLEG #CSA
NEW: Arizona does not vet new voucher schools. Not even if the school or the online school “provider” has already failed, or was founded yesterday, or is operating out of a strip mall, or offers just a half hour of instruction per morning.

Arizona Regulators Closed a Failing Charter School. It Reopened as a Private Religious School Funded by Taxpayers.
Arizona’s acclaimed voucher program provides zero transparency into private schools’ history, academic performance or financial sustainability to help parents make informed school choices.

Children don’t make any decisions about how or where they grow up. So it’s up to us as adults to help them. Surely, we can help feed, protect & educate them.
I see people saying “why should we give free lunches to schoolchildren?” and I think some folks truly have no idea what it’s like to grow up in poverty, never knowing where your next meal is coming from, forever being one paycheck away from eviction.

Let me explain some things.

This why statute of limitation laws for rape & sexual assault need to extend for decades. Thankful for Fed SOL allowed for the home search. Also, this Dr. practiced in KS & CO too. Unfortunately more victims most likely exist. #SupportSurvivors

The power & magic of a good book.
In elementary school, my teacher told my mother I was “unteachable.” I was behind in every subject, including reading. Then I found this one book in the school library and connected with it, reading it hundreds of times. I made a career in reading, writing, and editing. That’s what a book can do.

It’s a great idea. When depression hits hard, it takes time to dig yourself out of it. You should be able to put yourself on a list. But the opposition says it’s too risky to have a govt list. What?! More risky than suicidal ideation?
Rep. Ousley has been working on this bill for a looooong time. It’s a very reasonable way to try to reduce suicide by gun. It can’t even get a #ksleg hearing due to extremism in Topeka.
Is this bill key to reducing gun suicides in Kansas and Missouri?
Kansas and Missouri lawmakers, including a Merriam Democrat, are introducing bills that let people voluntarily exclude themselves from gun sales.
