we have to stop teaching a mainstream microeconomics model based in individualism, even when we tack on 'imperfections' and 'externalities'
even heterodox and public policy schools still often teach this way, knowing it's a totally flawed theory and naturally leads to this broken brain syndrome

Things like vaccines and health insurance risk pools break right-wingers brains. Because it can't just be about individual choice/autonomy. You not getting vaccinated or not to having insurance screws everyone around you. It's the purest distillation of "we live in a society."
Tell me you don’t understand risk pools without telling me you don’t understand risk pools

Went to repost this and then depressingly saw it was from 8 months ago. This is still true, and I am now convinced it will remain true until there are successful primary challenges nationwide to the "roll over and play dead" Dems.
American politics makes a lot more sense when you realize that the GOP is afraid of pissing off the GOP base, and the Dems are afraid of pissing off the GOP base, but neither party is afraid of pissing off the Dem base.

Dems cave. Once again. They got little for their efforts. More importantly, Americans get NO support on health care costs. Why even bother with these people? You win big last week and you capitulate the next.

time is a flat circle
Since it's been about 20 years maybe folks can use a reminder that Fannie and Freddie weren't taken down by dropping their own underwriting standards but by using their investment portfolio to buy private label mortgage securitizations that had. Investments that were wildly overvalued.

the problem is that it's good for Tesla shareholders - it's the self-interest of the shareholder class that keeps the whole thing going!

When private companies start asking for public funds, it’s a sign the bubble will pop.

Wrong.
Campaigning in 2016, Trump would go off-script rambling about how much harder it would be to run against Bernie Sanders than HRC.
Real economic populism that picks fights with powerful culprits at the top was Trump's kryptonite then and still is now.
Trump knows it. Many Dems still don't.
