I do computers. Data Scientist. Master's Student at GaTech.
Seems like a cool alternative to something like Spark for large-scale analytics tasks. I find Polars generally much friendlier for those tasks, and it's good to see true dfs scaling up.

a lot of economic variables we keep track of at 538 are now slipping into negative territory. measures selected historically track with election outcomes. positive values indicate higher-than-average long-run growth, negative lower than average. temporal comparison is last 6mos, 1yr and 2yrs

DDPG is a really resilient deep-learning algo. Combines Q-Learning & Policy Gradients using Actor-Critic Networks. Playing around with craft-implementing it, and its performing exceptionally on Gymnasium tasks, even compared to other Deep RL algos. Recommend.

Large Models of What?

Do LLMs actually model language? Not if we properly consider language in its full human context. In day 10 of advent of papers, we look at ways in which LLMs fall short.

I’m glad so many people have found my “capybara method” for how to write alt text and image descriptions helpful! However, I know conflicting access needs exist and not everyone can write their own #AltText, so here’s an ongoing thread of tools that can help. Inclusion in thread ≠ endorsement

Did this one and Day 6 today, since I kept getting incorrect answers on part 2 for day 6.
