Why do I ask this every day?

Because joy is an act of resistance. Bringing joy to others is an act of resistance.

It can be overwhelming when the news is constantly scary. But bring joy to others and yourself. Resistance is a process, not a single moment. Remember there is always good.
What is bringing you joy today?

What made you laugh or smile today?

Have you brought joy to someone else today?
Awesome!

The burnout from Magic and WOTC is real.

Watching EU news in a GQP controlled state is fucking depressing. Not even a "grass is greener" feeling.

Genuine "wait, things can be good?"
In incredible news, the European Parliament has voted overwhelmingly for "The Full Recognition Of Trans Women As Women."

Even the center-right European People's Party voted for the declaration.

It will form a foundation for their position at the UN Commission on the Status of Women.

Our latest.

The resolution, though nonbinding, is a significant shot at those who seek to erode transgender rights on the continent.

i think nominating Gavin Newsom will lose the White House again for Democrats. The party's left flank will stay home again because he's an empty corporate shell. The age of Democrats punching left to appeal to the center is over and it's now a matter of if the party as a whole realizes that or not.

Heck, refusing to do merchandising and crossovers like that at all is partly why the show failed.
February 12, 2026 at 10:51 PM
I wouldn't be surprised if part of why it was canceled was because they asked for more of a share in the revenue, despite not offering up any sort of merchandise licensing whatsoever. Not even FUNKO pops. Let alone crossovers with Fortnite, Magic the Gathering, etc.

The more I see from them, I'd be shocked if dealing with those chucklefucks isn't part of it on Amazon's part.

If we can’t stand for human rights here and abroad, we can’t credibly fight fascism anywhere.

Palestinian freedom is tied to our fight against authoritarianism at home. You cannot defend democracy while aligning with anti-democratic interests like AIPAC.

A lot of why opera words are that way is because they’re singing over massive orchestras without microphones for amplification.

Smaller orchestras and less soaring arias could make it easier too.
February 12, 2026 at 5:09 PM
It'd require reframing how things are introduced, and how you write arias, recitative, and arias too. The overture would be more like "Peter and the Wolf" with introducing themes in a talking and visual way.

Maybe when they premiered....

But today?

"Giraffes Can't Dance" and other stories in that vein would be much better these days.
February 12, 2026 at 4:19 PM
Heck, Benjamin Britten, a WELL KNOWN opera composer did this for orchestra. So did Prokofiev.

But opera has nothing like that.

Am I about to do a “fine I’ll do it myself”?

Probably.

The way children’s theater (performed by professionals) is for theater.

There are basically no operas in the repertoire like that.

Why not?

It may not be glamorous, but it gets audiences started young.
February 12, 2026 at 3:54 PM
The “opera is dying/struggling” discussion happens periodically because the institutions that run opera and audiences have a disconnect.

Streaming services need to host pro-shots, not the Met doing their own.

And there isn’t an on ramp for young audiences to get introduced to opera…
February 12, 2026 at 3:54 PM
They give performers in their 20s performance experience with (relatively) lower stakes.

They introduce children to theater.

Why couldn't we do the same with opera?
February 12, 2026 at 3:49 PM
I love opera. I also have friends who have done this kind of show with children's theater and musicals. Short, half hour shows based on children's books.

You know what's great about them? They're accessible, they're short enough to actually be enjoyed by young audiences.

Idea that just popped in my head.

Short opera based on children's books performed by professionals in children's theaters FOR CHILDREN.

I also wrote 2 leitmotifs for each player character in the game where I'm a paladin. With inversion, retrograde, and retrograde inversion, that's a lot of fun melodies to play with for D&D or other things.
February 12, 2026 at 3:14 PM
I'm running two TTRPG games and playing as a Paladin in a third.

And I finally get what is meant by "D&D is therapy", something that you don't see as a forever GM.
