I'm most proud of Soul Pearl, but I like all of them. One more coming in the next week, and another on the way 😉 #mcdev

My child is getting an engineering degree and is appalled at the lack of liberal arts in her classmates. "They should have to read Frankenstein if they are going make things."

I'm just implementing stuff I think is interesting to get a feel for things.

Which of these do we like better? I think the second one, because both Some and None are handled by the map. In the first one, it's kind of ugly and split up between the Some call and the ? operator.

Big fan of these functions.

The article also, right above this, jokingly brags that it wrote DOOM. Here's the thing about that.
this "claude made a c compiler thing" feels pretty dishonest and marketing-hype whenever you scroll to the very bottom to find these lines and the token cost lol

i mean, sure its impressive (particularly that it was a fully offline environment), but seems like hype bait

I made this video a while ago mostly as a joke. It's supposed to be like those fireplace videos people put up on their TV when there are people over. Anyway it's such a silly concept, but I like it, and I was just watching it and it's actually kind of nice.

Wow, this is real 😆
If you are looking for an AI-free, bloat-free Notepad replacement, you don't need Edit++. If you're on Windows 11 25H2 you can just type in "edit" in the terminal.

Yes, after years of absence the MS-DOS default text editor is back! It has been resurrected and re-written in rust.

This is incredibly compelling.

It occurred to me today that while Linked Lists are generally unsafe, the one used by a brainf tape only ever references/navigates the tape at one point. Here is a brainf tape implemented as a pair of stacks in Rust.

I'll do a ring buffer implementation next if I'm feeling zealous.

I have growing to do
Keep me on this @sexywetrat.birdswithlegs.nl
I thought more separation of concerns, abstractions, and single unit sever functions should be the default choice.

Now I’m more pragmatic. I like to start with monolithic architectures and let separations and abstractions slowly form and intentionally solve problems.

Hmm I would avoid doing this with libraries to be honest, this is a specific problem with cargo install that's being solved here

I love when a CS community comes up with a concise, trivially deployable solution to a problem like this.

If your library *will break* without a specific minor/patch of a dependency, depend on this as well, and it will break elegantly on compile if a downstream user unlocks dependencies.

I'm starting a new minecraft server.

To keep things family friendly, all text chats containing a four letter word will be hidden per-player pending age verification.

Cower before me.

I love how Modrinth is set up. Right away they served the needs of minecraft modders better than any other service.

This news is little disappointing just because I love their platform and I'd love to have it available, but ultimately I respect a team that delivers impeccably in their scope.

I see you deeply, Randy 😄
Putting it even more bluntly, I bought Hytale but I'm planning to play Minecraft when I get off work.

I wish there were a mod that would gaslight players' coordinates

Like every time you log on, it offsets your coordinates by a random number of chunks so you can't compare where you are

Super incompatible with client side caching mods (maps and DistantHorizons), but has narrow use cases

The new timeline feature with environment attributes is super cool! I made this quick datapack as a test that made nighttime brightness based on the moon phase, and it was very simple to do.

Why does the news about Minecraft deobfuscation matter?

I wrote this up for my mates in the #AstraeaSMP discord and they found it helpful, so I'm sharing it here as well.

I noticed the missing units before literally anything else in that email. No worries modrinth, you're a good sport.

(And if you're hiring, I'm well qualified at sending out emails with dollar signs, just please pay me more than my mods do;)

Yesterday we sent some creators confusing emails with poor formatting regarding rewards earned in July. The amount listed in the email was cents received, not the dollar amount (so "123 earned in July" is actually "$1.23 earned in July") Sorry for the confusion!
