I feel like this paragraph from my book is pretty appropriate for today.

Just talked to a close friend. Her husband has been working for the federal government for 10 years, half way to retirement. He started after his service in the military. His letter stated he is encouraged to apply for a private sector job. He dedicated his life to civil service. One letter.

If you're feeling overwhelmed, it's intentional. They're calling it "flooding the zone." The intent is to overwhelm and exhaust us so we can not effectively resist. Something simple you can do right now now is to make sure to take breaks and rest.

Something that has changed my perspective of the new year is that we are in the season of rest not resolution. In the past, winter was a time to rest until spring came and the work started. Let’s rest as much as possible, when spring comes we will be strong, planned, and prepared to make change.

This administration has done nothing but destroy lives during its first week. To stand behind religion and tag lines about “Making America Great” while making decisions that single handedly cause the destruction of people’s lives is heartbreaking.

Winter has made me most homesick since moving to Mobile. Christmas time with the AC on was a new experience. We finally got a taste of WV winters in Mobile, AL because today it broke the all-time record for most snowfall in a single day 6.2’’ and still snowing. The previous record was 6’’ in 1895.

I have a confession, I have been exercising a privilege and keeping tight boundaries on what politics I pay attention to and engage in. After today I cannot sit back; for our present, my future, and my children’s future.
