Who are the far-right?

When I speak about ‘the far right’ I mean the organised far-right, the parties, the politicians & the official spokespeople. It can also include “influencers” & other grifters. Making money from selling hate is a common theme.

My wish for 2026 is for the people of Cymru to do electorally what the good miners & their political supporters did in Tonypandy in the Rhondda, ninety years ago. They sent the far-right packing at the Battle of De Winton Field (June 1936).

Let’s do it again.

There’s a huge opportunity for communities here, with the right policies:

“This year, renewables surpassed coal as a source of electricity worldwide, & solar & wind energy grew fast enough to cover the entire increase in global electricity use from January to June”

Politics doesn’t organise itself.

It can’t be left to others.

Let’s not leave politics to political parties?

If you care, get politically active in 2026.

Interesting to compare YouGov’s October poll with the actual result in the Caerffili by-election.

47% consider RefUK to be “generally racist”

47% = Plaid Cymru vote in Caerffili.

36% believe them to be not racist

36% is their vote in Caerffili.

Lessons for May?

We can either carry on doing what we have always done, getting the same results, or we can do it differently.

The extractive economic model is responsible for Welsh poverty.

Community ownership and the circular economy can change that.

Locals built the landscape. Now, they want a stake in its future.
In the slate valleys of north Wales, a group of community organisers, councillors and researchers are taking on one of the region’s most powerful companies – and taking back control of their place.

We defeat refUK by countering, exposing and demolishing their arguments and narratives, not by taking them on and running with them.

December 1st is the international day to recognise, remember & stand with those who have experienced HIV and AIDS.

Let’s all pledge to call out the ignorance and bigotry that can leave people feeling excluded. Let’s stand against the bullies and with the bullied.

Let’s focus on love, not hate.

Ending the right to trial by jury at the same time as restricting the right to protest is dangerous business.

I’m seeing that some people are using free post to return electoral marketing mail.

It’s better to use the free post to send a letter outlining your thoughts, on plain paper, without your name and address. That way you will be adding to the company costs without giving them your data. 😉

Living Wage Foundation:

“We use a public consultation method…asks groups to identify what people need to be able to afford as a minimum. This is fed into a calculation of what someone needs to earn as a full-time salary…then converted to an hourly rate.”

I want to pay tribute to my close colleague, the late Steffan Lewis MS who dedicated a phenomenal amount of time & effort into this campaign for justice for the mineworkers’ pensioners. He would have loved to have seen the result. At last!

Well done to all involved.

Llongyfarchiadau / Well done to everyone who took part in the years-long campaign to end the two child benefit cap. It was a major obstacle to efforts to tackle child and parent poverty.

Now time to tackle all of the other contributors to poverty, including the problem of excess wealth.
