How does chemistry shape the ocean’s iron cycle?
In our new study, we show that the chemical diversity of organic matter controls how iron is stabilized or lost in the subsurface South Pacific Ocean.

"The Southern Ocean May Be Building Up a Massive Burp"
"Results suggest that if anthropogenic emissions decrease and the atmosphere cools, heat stored in the Southern Ocean could be released abruptly in a few hundred years, kicking off a temporary warming period"

As part of the @tricuso.bsky.social project, we deployed a profiling float equipped with a passive acoustic sensor and showed that wind speed can be retrieved from subsurface ambient noise with good agreement to buoy observations.

This morning we were introduced to the CaPASOS pCO2 sensor by the @exeter.ac.uk team, and then got to build a lite version ourselves to understand how it works. From bubbling the equilibrator to testing calibration with reference gas! 🫧⚗️
