🌊🤿 I’m Louise, I study how rising anthropogenic CO₂ impacts the ocean’s carbon cycle. My focus is on the marine biological carbon pump and the ocean’s carbon sink.

I recently gave a TEDx talk on deploying robots in the Antarctic Ocean to better constrain the ocean carbon sink 🕹️ youtu.be/mPi08_HC6cg

#AI has changed university education. AI written essays on any topic take minutes and can be quite good.

So, I revised all my written assignment formats:

Ask all AI engines you use to write an essay on topic X. Critically evaluate which essay is most scientifically accurate.

🚨 New preprint alert! 🚨

How does chemistry shape the ocean’s iron cycle?
In our new study, we show that the chemical diversity of organic matter controls how iron is stabilized or lost in the subsurface South Pacific Ocean.

Chemical controls on iron distributions across the subsurface South Pacific Ocean
Iron and nitrogen are the primary nutrients that limit productivity in the ocean. While nitrogen cycling is largely controlled by biology, iron cycling is strongly determined by chemistry because iron...

Abstract. Wind forcing plays a pivotal role in driving upper-ocean physical and biogeochemical processes, yet direct wind observations remain sparse in many regions of the global ocean. While passive ...

This morning we were introduced to the CaPASOS pCO2 sensor by the @exeter.ac.uk team, and then got to build a lite version ourselves to understand how it works. From bubbling the equilibrator to testing calibration with reference gas! 🫧⚗️
