🌊 Feeling the blues of a shifting ocean?

Join me next Wednesday, Nov 12 (16:00 CET / 15:00 UTC), for a @scor-int.bsky.social WG168 4D-BGC webinar where I’ll dive into the secret shifts of the ocean’s biological carbon pump in the past two decades

Coolest thing ever 🤩

This morning we were introduced to the CaPASOS pCO2 sensor by the @exeter.ac.uk team, and then got to build a lite version ourselves to understand how it works. From bubbling the equilibrator to testing calibration with reference gas! 🫧⚗️

In the afternoon, we spent time with the @noc.ac.uk team to get hands-on with their Lab-On-Chip systems for DIC and TA — miniaturized chemical analyzers that can perform complex carbonate chemistry measurements.

Never been more motivated to write grants so I can buy all these shiny new toys 💸

Morning of Day 3 at the @george-project.bsky.social TF II, we looked at the ClearWater pH sensor and how it’s designed for high-precision autonomous ocean pH measurements 🔥
October 9, 2025 at 6:24 AM
🤖 We also got to see so many incredible @vliz.be marine robotics platforms. From USVs to AUVs and gliders!
October 7, 2025 at 3:13 PM
⚙️ Then moved on to testing the GO pCO₂ system, the heart of real-time autonomous measurements for air–sea CO₂ exchange

🧪 Had a great time tinkering with the HydroC CO₂ sensor setup at the @george-project.bsky.social TF II. So cool to see the internal components and how these systems are engineered for high-precision ocean measurements

🌊 So excited to be at the @vliz.be in Ostend for the second @george-project.bsky.social Technical Forum focusing on sensor technologies developed within the project.

Time to play with some ocean tech! 🎮🧰

Reef fish, such as this pufferfish in North Bali, contribute to ecosystem function by linking lower and higher trophic levels in coral reef food webs. They are also incredibly cute.

Dived with manta rays today 🤿

A reminder of what’s at stake when we talk about protecting marine ecosystems and the ocean carbon sink.

Scuba diving off Menjangan Island, Bali 🐢

This area is part of the Bali Barat National Park — one of Indonesia’s earliest marine protected areas. The reefs here are home to sea turtles, reef fish, and corals that benefit from long-standing conservation efforts.

Not ocean science today 🌊➡️🌋
On holiday in Indonesia and couldn’t keep this hidden — Mount Bromo and its little brother. The little one is still active, sending up smoke and fire.

Got the chance to visit Boris Herrmann’s IMOCA today ⛵️

Not only did we get a behind-the-scenes look at life on board, but we also saw the onboard Ocean Pack that collects precious temperature, salinity and CO₂ data during #TheOceanRace or the #VendéeGlobe 🌊

🌊🤿 I’m Louise, I study how rising anthropogenic CO₂ impacts the ocean’s carbon cycle. My focus is on the marine biological carbon pump and the ocean’s carbon sink.

I recently gave a TEDx talk on deploying robots in the Antarctic Ocean to better constrain the ocean carbon sink 🕹️ youtu.be/mPi08_HC6cg
