Hand thrown and carved bowl, in speckled clay, carved with fern-like leaves. Glaze is brown and blue-green and somewhat shiny. The bowl is sitting on a wood table in front of a golden yellow background (which is a knitted blanket) with a Havanese dog behind and to the left of the table and bowl.

First completed piece in the new studio with the new kiln. My kiln is so small these had to be fired separately….only bc I couldn’t fit kiln posts on the shelf with either piece. Glaze flaws, so it will remain with me.
Boston fern in round planter with carved and pierced saucer. Saucer has a carved scalloped edge with piercing and carving in daisy-like shapes. Made of brown speckled clay with a creamy beige glaze. Print behind the plant is “Forest Mandala” by Nicola Barsaleau.

Back in my studio and the lilacs are blooming. It smells amazing outside and I can still throw pots after a 7 month break. Yay!

I made my calls to my representatives, practiced French, plan to do some permaculture studying later and move more boxes out of the living room. And you?

This is supposed to be my studio. I think it housed goats previously, judging by the smell. It needs….a lot.

I haven’t made anything from clay since moving. So today I applied to join a studio where I can get work fired.

Time to get back to it, when the old house closes next week.

Hot cocoa on a frigid day, anyone?

Was gifted the adorable snowflake marshmallows. The mug is my creation, my favorite comfy mug.

Keeping the decorated tree up for now. It’s wintry and festive, and non-holiday specific. The tree itself was my mom’s and she called it her Solstice Tree. Twinkling lights on a snowy day just feel good.

A gift I received this year- I didn’t make the art, but I grew the artist myself.

We’ve been thinking of getting a new (to us) cat- and I’ve been feeling gray tabby, like my first cat. Been nearly a year since we lost both our kitties in a particularly horrible 3 weeks (one to cancer, one old age)

I started late and didn’t keep count, but I guess this is the last one. Ornament I threw and altered (can anybody guess how?), I think 2 years ago?

Took forever, and was definitely a bit of an experiment…one with good results that I probably won’t try to repeat.

One of the last pots done before I moved. Haven’t found it yet in the unpacking to get a better pic, but this is my snap of it when I picked it up from the studio. I enjoy playing with the juxtaposition of a geometric design with free form elements.

Today we have one of my favorite non-carved pieces, a cozy bowl with one of my best glaze results.

The primary color is a sparkly black with a somewhat coppery float, with varied stripes in copper, white, and beige, with some bluish spots resulting from chemical interactions in the glazes. I’d love to do some more designs like this one- I sketched out my own interpretation of dotted horsemint (monarda punctata) and did it in sgraffito. Another native plant from my garden.

Another improvised leaf wrap-around on a tiny cup. Could possibly be used as an egg cup, or shot glass…. really a glaze test, but a lovely one, if I do say so myself.

Tiny thrown and carved cup in dark brown clay, much narrower at the bottom than the top, carved with leaves somewhat resembling ferns, but improvised, that appear to wrap around the cup. Glazed in a deep blue glaze that was wiped off the raised areas of the carving before firing, revealing the brown clay.
