I wish kiwifoo was still a thing. It was a huge and thankless task for @gnat.bsky.social @publicaddress.bsky.social Jenine et al, but I think we need it for the same reasons you refer to re reclaiming online spaces eh @sachajudd.com

Grrrr - why does each online meeting app (zoom, teams, G meet etc) use a different video and microphone setting on my laptop, so I need to do the bloody “can you hear me” dance each time I switch to a different app

NYT Games “Connections” is so jingoistically American that even when I get the four groups out by a process of elimination, sometimes I still don’t understand how the last group is connected 🧐

What is it that makes telcos, banks, power companies et al think it’s a good idea to first waste my time by stuffing something up, then force me to navigate labyrinthine automated call support lines to get to a real person …

I see that InternetNZ has gazumped all its new members who wished to vote on its constitutional changes, by giving advance notice of an SGM to be held on 31 March. INZ’s current constitution postpones membership rights (incl the right to vote) for 3 months after joining

1/3 13 years ago today, Messrs Batato, Ortmann, van der Kolk and Dotcom were arrested for alleged criminal #copyright infringement following a massive police raid on Dotcom’s home in Coatesville. They were in NZ for KDC’s 38th birthday.

The thread under this is a really interesting read. Reckless AI adoption does seem to fit well with America's present cultural moment.
For a client I recently reviewed a redlined contract where the counterparty used an "AI-powered contract platform." It had inserted into the contract a provision entirely contrary to their own interests.

So I left it in there.

Please, go ahead, use AI lawyers. It's better for my clients.

The cultural tutor isn’t here, but someone recently started a thread on LI about colloquially named buildings that reminded me of him. My contribution was the “Crunchy Bar building” originally built as merchant bankers, Fay Richwhite’s headquarters in Auckland, NZ. Anyone else have any?

Hilarious steward, Mike, on my AirNZ flight ZQN 🛫 AKL NZ616.
I like flying but this makes it fun (and a relief, given the weather was making it look a little chancy we’d even get out today)

The reported “obligation” to continually interact and the guilt when not doing so, reminds me of the tamagotchi effect on kids. I can also recall reports at the time from parents saying that looking after a tamagotchi made their child a better person

1/ We're experiencing a huge influx of users, and with that, a predictable uptick in harmful content posted to the network.

As a result, for some very high-severity policy areas like child safety, we recently made some short-term moderation choices to prioritize recall over precision.

Excellent day at #IAPPANZ2024 #privacy conference. Lots of movement in the Australian regulatory space, both with legislation, and regulator enforcement (eg Bunnings and, hot of the press, Property Lovers OAIC actions www.oaic.gov.au/news/media-c...)
Grubisa companies interfered with Australians’ privacy by scraping data
