I'm back home with my dad and have thoughts about being an Indigenous scientist and academic. I'm writing this in real time so it might get disrupted and will have typos.

I am fairly successful by academic standards. I have a tenure track job, wrote papers, have grant funding, mentor students.

@vidhikadamani.bsky.social painted the most beautiful image for our perspective on stimuli-responsive conductive polymers in @pubs.acs.org Chemistry of Materials for their Up-and-Coming series and it made the journal cover!

🚨 There’s a lot of horrific news out of Washington right now—but you might have missed this: Senate Republicans just introduced a plan to sell off 120 million acres of our public lands.

Let me break down what’s in the bill and why it’s a full-scale land grab. 🧵

The 2016 Nobel prize in chemistry was awarded 'for the design and synthesis of molecular machines'. Ironically, we do not know exactly what constitutes a molecular machine. With the ultimate goal of unifying definitions and standardising terminology, Iupac needs your help!

Stimuli-Responsive Conductive Polymers for Bioelectronics†
Stimuli response, or the ability to respond to environmental cues with changes in behavior, is omnipresent in living systems. Inspiration from this natural behavior has led to the development of polym...

I want to thank @sebvidalchem.bsky.social for his article on safety related to a dichloromethane injection injury! We discussed this article a few months ago and had a similar incident today with DMF. The student was therefore aware of the potential risk. [1/2] pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/...

There has been a lot of chatter today about Zelenskyy's meeting with Trump, some regarding this moment when White House correspondent Brian Glenn asked if the Ukrainian president plans to wear a suit. I want to address idea in this thread. 🧵

Reupping this short, 4-post 🧵 about the American "scientific pipeline", so we all understand the long-term economic impact of shutting it off

#SciComm folks are great at popularizing individual fields, but the overall system of funding scientific discovery needs similarly terse explainers
Has everyone forgotten how much of American economic progress since WWII stems from technical innovations in the physical + biological sciences?

That without massive funding from the federal government for basic research, little of that era's most lucrative technology originates here?

🚨PIs of Training Grants and Programs, ESPECIALLY training grants that support students from historically excluded groups (T32s and T34s, IMSD, MARC, PREP, MOSAIC, etc.)🚨

We need to push back on the loss of information and the disappearance of websites about these resources.
